Zipadelli thinks Stewart has made decision on his future

Tony StewartWhile Tony Stewart continues to play coy about his future, at least one person believes the two-time Cup champion already has decided what he plans to do.

“I honestly think the decision’s made, I just don’t think we all know yet,” crew chief Greg Zipadelli said. Stewart and Zipadelli are in their 10th season together at Joe Gibbs Racing in the longest active driver-crew chief combination in the garage.

I’m betting that Tony is going to stay with Gibbs–simply because right now they’re on fire.

If he wants to win he shouldn’t leave. I don’t think Tony should
do the ownership thing until he retires. I think MWR is proof
it may not work while you are still driving.

What do you mean if he wants to win he shouldn’t leave??? He hasn’t won once this year, and Gibbs is giving most of his assets to Busch and Hamlin

We anonymous if you know anything about Tony then you know he kicks it in gear in the
later part of the year not in the beginning.
Why are you worried about Kyle Busch anyways?

I agree that Smoke is getting the short end of the stick equipment wise but I’m not really sure that he’s going to step it up at the end of the season. That has been his practice in the past but if last year is any evidence I believe his luck will remain as it has. Gibbs is smart to look to the future instead of lingering in the past but he is in error thinking Stewart isn’t worth the funds. Also factored into this is the fact that there are 4-5 drivers on the track that can’t seem to keep their fenders off of him. He’s in a difficult situation and taking on part ownership might be the last plate he can keep spinning before it all comes crashing down. The answer isn’t easy but he’s a champion and as such he’ll figure it all out and get back on top.

BTW, it will be a sad day the day he retires. It will be the end of an era of real racing.

I’d like to see him stay with Gibbs, but he has to do what’s best for him. Just like Dale Earnhardt Jr. had to do for himself.

I don’t know if anyone caught the comment they said Greg Biffle made during the pre-race stuff. Something like.. there’s no seats in the Gibbs stable so there’s really nothing better out there for him besides staying with Roush. Kinda opens the door right there….. think about it.

Sooooooo going back to Chevy. He is not staying with Gibbs. Isn’t there a rumor out there that JR MS is going up to Cup and he’ll be driving for that team? Eh, it’ll all shake out, but I’m pretty sure the Gibbs/Stewart era is over.

  8. 8 Charles

Wasn’t there also the rumor of him going to RCR to be the 4th team or to start up and co-own a team with Harvick?

  9. 9 Junebug61767

I have not heard of him going to JRMS I did hear the RCR rumor….he made it clear that there is nothing broken between himself and JGR so ther eis nothing to fix he will not go anywhere for awhile…he has a full plate as it is.

Oooops sry There * and is*

I think he should not take up ownership at this time. The economy sucks and he has enough on his plate with all his tracks. I think if he wants to win he should stay put. I agree it will be a sad day when Smoke retires. He is a true racer. Let me tell you the Indiana Pacers haven’t been the same since reggie Miller retired and NASCAR will not be the same when he retires.

Where did you hear that Smoke would be there?

If that is true remember these factors

Smoke has a history with Mopar
Petty Enterprises has a history with Chevy/GM

I think that Tony will Do what Tony wants, when Tony wants it and with who. It’s about Tony and don’t let it fool you. But man what a wonderful driver and special team headed up by a fantastic crew chief that has all the makings of what I respect and adore in life.

Racing doesn’t change, only the geography and yet people in it always cross pathes. You never stop loving one another no matter where you stand on this earth.

If you remember Tony is now in the same situation as Bobby was in when he left JGR so this all makes perfect sense. but i’m wondering if home depot will stick with Gibbs or follow Tony.

ford cars have won Lemans, SCCA, Trans-am, Aussie V8 supercar, hold the records at Daytona and Talladega, and overall have won more titles in international competition than any manufacturer. Ford Cosworth engines have the most F1 wins also. The chevy wins are based on numbers, more people run chevy in nascar than ford, Ford “officially” pulled out of racing from 73-88, and only Bud Moore and the Wood Brothers were running cars in that time. And has had really 3 competitive teams since, Junior Johnson, Yates, Roush.

I bet Toyota has won more races then Ford has internationally if you add in all the spec/jr/Formula classes that run Toyota/Lexus/Scion based engines with the rest of the racing divisions that the Toyota family has been in since the company was created….. But I digress…

As far as what Clay said about Chevy, its the vicious circle of monkey see monkey do. Chevy has the most wins in NASCAR because there are more Chevy teams. Why are there more Chevy Teams? Because Chevy wins more races. Why does Chevy win more races? Because there are more Chevy teams. Etc……

Some numbers I would like to see though is how GM as a whole (all their worldwide brands, fully owned and partially owned) stack up again Ford as a whole (all their worldwide brands, fully owned and partially owned).

o believe tony should stay with gibbs. i’m a total hater of tony (jeff gordon fan), but if tony leaves gibbs he’s in for a hell-of-a ride being on his own. i think tony can do it though. look at robby he left rcr and is atleast finishing races. thats basically tony will need to do if he goes on his own is just worry about finishes.

p.s. now i’m gunna rip on tony. his anger problems won’t be missed but his racing skills when he’s not pissed at some1 will be missed

  21. 21 Nick

i don’t believe that theory about tony getting lesser equipment!!That is total BS. JGR always puts the best stuff in everyones car…and take a look at Kyle Busch last year with Hendricks…the COT events he dominated!!! Now he has the COT in every race, he’s just good in them cars! As for Tony every year he explains that they mess around with different set ups during the beginning of the year , but i believe its august where he stacks up multiple wins almost every year! I do agree with most that say he shouldn’t leave JGR. I really could care less about manufactures in Sprint Cup anymore due to the COT and basically just engines are different now, so anywhere he goes he’ll still be driving a crap COT lol I also heard the rumor about JRMS, they are best friends and with Brad winning his first Nationwide race that might be something in the future having a 2 car JRMS team in sprint next year…lil Brad and vet Tony?? sounds promising doesn’t it??

  22. 22 RedDevil

I think Hamlin and Stewart both are getting the crappier equipment. Just like Casey is in Hendricks.

  23. 23 Justin 99

I dont think Gibbs has ANY crappy equipment.
