Zanardi understands Schumacher’s retirement

Alex Zanardi has backed Michael Schumacher’s decision to quit Formula One.
The 40-year-old Italian, who shared a Grand Prix track with Schumacher in the nineties before heading to Champ Car, reckons the great German called it quits while he was ’still on top of his game’.
“Quite frankly I think deep in his mind he would have loved to continue,” Zanardi said.
“But the reality is that a guy like him had everything to lose and nothing more to gain.
“If he had a great season (in the future) but one bad race, everyone would have said he’s finished, he’s done.”
Zanardi concluded: “I guess he made the logical, sensible decision.”
