Australian Grand PrixOrganisers of the Australian Grand Prix have been given the green light to sell cheaper tickets to the 2007 event to women, domestic media said on Monday.

With an exemption granted by the state of Victoria’s Equal Opportunity Act, pink-coloured tickets for the ‘Traction’ area near turn four at Albert Park will be cheaper than male-only blue tickets.

“It’s a party,” Grand Prix Corporation CEO Tim Bamford told the hearing on Monday morning, explaining that the offer will not apply to normal GP tickets.

Up to 85 per cent of spectators at the annual race in Melbourne are men, the hearing was told.

Bamford added: “It’s a way to get people otherwise not interested to go to the event.”
