(GMM) Suzuka has given up hope of appearing on the formula one calendar for 2007.
The Honda run circuit, traditionally the home of the Japanese grand prix, must make way next year to Toyota’s refurbished venue at Fuji.
”Obviously we feel it is a great pity,” spokesman Yasuo Sugaya was quoted as saying by the BBC, ”but we are continuing negotiations in order to be included from 2008.”
There were suggestions that Suzuka would push to host a ‘Pacific’ grand prix in 2007, as did Aida in 1994 and 1995 when Japan featured twice on the world championship schedule.
Suzuka, designed as a Honda test track in 1962, will host its final grand prix for now on October 8.
