Brandon “The Kid” Lewis is still waiting for the big bid to roll in, but the second-year NHRA top alcohol funny car racer is pleased with the success his eBay auction has seen through the first six days.
Lewis posted on eBay the sponsorship rights for his funny car at the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif., November 9-12 to be broadcast on ESPN2. The winner of the online auction will receive a package which includes branding on the car, an appearance by the driver before the event and media coverage.
“We didn’t really know what kind of results to expect,” the 21-year-old drag racer said. “With just over three days of bidding left, it’s been great to see how much attention our experiment has gotten. Now we just need to get a few more serious bidders involved.”
The unprecedented fund raising campaign has been the subject of television news, newspapers, internet news sites and chat boards. This is the kind of attention that Lewis said makes this auction a unique opportunity for anyone with a brand they hope to advertise.
“There’s no doubt that the winner of this auction is going to get their money’s worth,” he said. “Not only do they get the exposure of being on the car and everything that normally comes with being a sponsor, but there is going to be a lot more conversation than there normally would be because of the way this sponsorship is being initiated.”
The auction will continue until Thursday evening and can be viewed by searching “NHRA Market” on eBay, or by using:
