Speed to Race in American Karting ‘SuperNationals’
Quote selected text Published August 30th, 2006 in MainIn a SpeedTV.com exclusive, Scuderia Toro Rosso Formula 1 pilot Scott Speed officially announced today that he would return to his karting roots by competing at the SKUSA SuperNationals, which will be held in Las Vegas, Nev., November 9-12. Speed, the only American in F1, will strap on a PCH Motorsports CRG/SwedeTech Maxter package for what is the biggest event in North American karting.
The 23-year-old from Manteca, CA was euphoric about returning to the SuperNats, an event that he won in 2000 and 2001.
“I’m so eager to come home for a while and spend some time with my family,” said Speed, just before first practice at the Turkish Grand Prix in Istanbul. “And I’m not feeling any pressure to do well at the SuperNats. Sure, I want to win, but even if I got a top five, I’d be fine with it. The main thing is to see my family and my racing friends who I haven’t seen in quite a long time, and driving at the SuperNationals will allow me to do all that.”
