Michael Schumacher has been voted F1 Racing magazine’s ‘Man of the Year’ by thousands of Formula One fans.
The German, who retired from the sport after losing the World title to Fernando Alonso at the the Brazilian Grand Prix, earned a massive 54 percent of the 46,937 votes.
Second place went to Alonso, who had just 21 percent of the votes despite winning back-to-back World titles in 2005 and 2006.
The ‘Driver of the Year’ award went to Honda’s Jenson Button, who claimed his first F1 victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix, while Robert Kubica, who replaced Jacques Villeneuve at BMW during the season, clinched the ‘Rookie of the Year’ award.
Meanwhile, the city of Maranello will honour Michael Schumacher next month, when the German driver will be made a honourary citizen.
Ferrari President Luca Montezemolo and team boss Jean Todt are expected to be present at the Enzo Ferrari auditorium where the ceremony will take place, as well will Maranello mayor Lucia Bursi.
