Sam Hornish Jr. Returns Home for 90th Indianapolis 500 Victory Celebration
Quote selected text Published July 20th, 2006 in MainSam Hornish Jr. will be honored in his hometown of Defiance, Ohio, on Wednesday, July 26 for his thrilling victory in the 90th Indianapolis 500. Hornish edged rookie Marco Andretti by .0635 of a second in the second-closest finish in the race’s storied history.
The City of Defiance, Ohio, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the Indy Racing League, Michigan International Speedway, Marlboro Team Penske and the residents of northwest Ohio will celebrate with Hornish, his family and friends.
Roger Penske, Marlboro Team Penske owner, Joie Chitwood, Indianapolis Motor Speedway president and chief operating officer, Brian Barnhart, Indy Racing League president and COO, and Mike King, the anchor of the IMS Radio Network, also will attend.
The event begins at 4 p.m. with a VIP reception at the Defiance Regional Medical Center. Fans then will enjoy a parade through downtown Defiance starting at 6 p.m. The festivities will conclude with a fan event in the Northtowne Mall parking lot at 7 p.m.
