Paul Stoddart Planning Champ Car Assault for 2007
Quote selected text Published July 21st, 2006 in MainLess than a year after selling his Minardi F1 team to Red Bull, the controversial Paul Stoddart is ready to resume racing - in America.
According to Autosport magazine, the Australian has backing from Holland’s Muermans group to set up a Champ Car squad for 2007.
“Yes, the rumors do have some credibility, but we are still in the very early stages,” he told the magazine. Muermans, a real estate developer, has expanded into the American market. The company currently backs Belgian driver Jan Heylen in the Dale Coyne CCWS team, and also Red Bull Racing tester Robert Doornbos, who would be a leading candidate for the possible Stoddart Champ Car outfit.
“Robert would be on it, as would any good quality driver worth experience such as one who has driven for Minardi in F1. Bas Leinders is another and Zsolt Baumgartner,” he added.
