(GMM) F1 inspiration Alex Zanardi returned to the winner’s rostrum at the weekend.

The Italian, who last raced in formula one for Williams in 1999 before losing his legs in a Champ Car crash, won a round of the World Touring Car championship in his hand-controlled BMW in Turkey.

At Silverstone, meanwhile, Bruno Senna’s tilt at the British F3 championship came to an end, as Mike Conway wrapped up his title.

Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya played host to DTM and F3 Euroseries action, and DTM driver Mika Hakkinen was honoured when a plaque behind the main grandstand paid tribute to his career.

Hakkinen won the Spanish GP three times between 1998 and 2000.

At the same circuit, BMW-Sauber’s continuing Friday driver, 19-year-old Sebastian Vettel, won a race of the F3 Euroseries.
