The IndyCar® Series will return to Michigan International Speedway next season, completing the IndyCar Series’ 2007 calendar.

The 400-mile event at Michigan International Speedway, the 13th race in the 17-race schedule, will be held on Sunday, Aug. 5.

“Michigan International Speedway showcases the high-speed excitement and drama of the IndyCar Series, so we look forward to our return in 2007,” said Brian Barnhart, president and chief operating officer of the Indy Racing League, sanctioning body of the IndyCar Series. “Roger Curtis and his staff have been great partners during the scheduling process, and their flexibility allowed us to put together the most diverse schedule in all of motorsports. We have now closed out our schedule for 2007 in a manner that allowed us to achieve two primary goals: return all 14 of the races from the 2006 schedule, while adding three events.”

Michigan International Speedway is the only two-mile track currently on the IndyCar Series’ 2007 schedule. The D-shaped oval configuration of MIS has played host to two of the 13-closest finishes in series history and three of the 10 fastest races, including Helio Castroneves’ victory in 2006 – the fourth-fastest race in series history.

“Michigan International Speedway is one of the most exciting venues on the IndyCar Series schedule,” said Roger Curtis, president of Michigan International Speedway. “The track action and the wheel-to-wheel excitement for 400 miles are just two of the things that make this track so historic.”

The 2007 event will be the sixth IndyCar Series event at Michigan International Speedway and will be the 55th Indy-style race at MIS. Winners of past IndyCar Series races include Tomas Scheckter, Buddy Rice and Helio Castroneves, while Michael Andretti, Mario Andretti, Rick Mears, Johnny Rutherford, Gordon Johncock, Bobby Rahal, Bobby Unser, A.J. Foyt, Tom Sneva, Danny Sullivan and Nigel Mansell are just some of the Indy-style winners at MIS.

“Tradition, history and loyalty are all part of what makes MIS great,” Curtis said. “While we had originally planned to hold the IndyCar Series race during what has been a traditional July date for us, we want to do our part to help the IndyCar Series grow and hope the race fans will, too. This is a one-time only scenario for us and we truly appreciate the support that race fans give us and motorsports year-round.”
