The first practice session of the Canadian Grand Prix weekend saw Robert Kubica dominate proceedings in his BMW Sauber. The Pole set a best time of 1:16.390s in what was a pretty uneventful opening session. Regular BMW Sauber racers, Jacques Villeneuve and Nick Heidfeld, did not set a time.
Anthony Davidson was second fastest in his Honda, albeit two second down on Kubica, while Alex Wurz took the third fastest time in his Bridgestone-shod Williams Cosworth. It was interesting to note that even on some relatively quick laps, the Austrian test driver was bust weaving on the long straight to try and generate more heat for the tyres.
