With Germany already in the spotlight, Hungary and Italy have now been told by the European Commission to stop letting Formula One cars race with tobacco logos.

The countries are now in the possession of ‘reasoned opinions’, according to reports on Thursday, after failing to properly implement the continent-wide tobacco advertising ban.

”The Commission is clear that there can be no derogations from the Directive’s ban on tobacco sponsorship for cross-border events, whether it’s for Formula One or for other events,” health commissioner Markos Kyprianou said in a statement.

Spain, too, was sent a letter of formal notice in April, while Germany has been referred to the European Court of Justice.
