Honda’s Nick Fry: Button is as good as Alonso

Nick Fry has rubbished Ron Dennis’s claims that Lewis Hamilton is on a par with Jenson Button, saying that the Honda driver is actually up to the standards of McLaren’s other driver, Fernando Alonso.
Asked recently about his decision to throw Hamilton into deep end of F1 next season, Dennis told reporters that he’d opted for the 21-year-old because he felt that F1’s experienced drivers are no better than his rookie.
“When we looked at our options, we reviewed the whole grid,” the McLaren team boss said. “If you take out the top three - one of whom has retired - we felt the others had pretty much plateaued in their careers. There was no one who shone.”
However, according to Fry, Dennis is off the mark in saying that there are only two top drivers in F1 at present time as he believes his driver, Button, is on a par with the likes of Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen.
“I believe that Jenson is up there with both Alonso and Raikkonen as the top three,” he told Reuters.
