Kimi RaikkonenA prominent Formula 1 team boss who wished to remain anonymous made this assertion to Racer Magazine regarding Kimi Raikkonen’s move to Ferrari in 2007 and his potential going forward:

“Kimi is abosolutely magical,” he says, his eyes wide open in admiration. “He is the kind of talent that you see only once in maybe 10 or 15 years. When I saw him at Sauber when he first started, it reminded me of Spa-Francorchamps in August 1991 where this kid called Michael Schumacher was setting quick times during practice.

“I just thought, ‘How on earth have we missed this one?’ Kimi has amazing speed, he’s blindingly fast and he lives for driving F1 cars on the absolute limit.”

Then there’s a pause. And, with a short intake of breath, it comes.

“But he will not be a champion at Ferrari unless he changes his the brain in his head. He is nowhere near Michael when it comes to commitment, application to the job and just working hard. It’s sad, but it’s true.”
