It’s not a done, done deal yet because there’s the matter of a test next month and a contract to be signed. But Graham Rahal will be a Champ Car driver in 2007.
The precocious 17-year-old son of the three-time CART champion is likely ticketed for Newman/Haas next year and is testing for Champ Car’s premier team Sept. 12-13 at Sebring, Fla.
On Saturday, Kevin Kalkhoven, Paul Newman, Carl Haas and Bobby Rahal had a meeting in the Denver paddock to discuss Graham’s future.
“Graham still hasn’t tested yet but after he does I believe he’ll receive an offer from Newman/Haas and, for some reason if they don’t, then PKV will offer him one,” said Kalkhoven. who co-owns Champ Car along with Gerald Forsythe along with co-owning the two-car PKV Racing operation.
“He should be in this series and I think he will be.”
