Funny Car Shaping up to be 2 Horse Race Between Force & Capps
Quote selected text Published June 6th, 2006 in MainMuch was made about the perceived parity in the Funny Car category, but through the first nine races in 2006 it’s beginning to look like a two-horse race between the ultimate David (Ron Capps) and Goliath (John Force) of the category.
Ron Capps has finished second in the points championship three times, including twice to Force (1998, 2000) and in 2005 to Gary Scelzi, while Force is the winningest driver in the history of the NHRA POWERade Series.
Currently, Capps has looked like Goliath with a 109-point lead that was built on the strength of four victories - three coming with Force in the opposite lane.
Force has yet to win in 2006, but he’s been to four final rounds and he’s certainly close enough to smell the fumes coming out of Capps’ Brut Dodge.
