Fuji Speedway is aiming to stage the Japanese Grand Prix beyond its maiden race next September, circuit officials on Thursday said.
“We haven’t heard formally about 2008,” Chairman Akihiko Saito, who has overseen the $170 million renovations, told Reuters, “but our hope is to stage the Japanese Grand Prix for several years.”
The venue, nestling at the foot of Mt. Fuji, takes the place on the calendar of the popular venue Suzuka.
Fuji’s Saito added: “We will put our hands up and hope to be selected again (in 2008). The final decision is in the hands of the FIA.”
