Formula 1 to select site for Indian Grand Prix

Four states are in the race to host India’s inaugural Grand Prix in 2010.
The country’s motor racing chief, Vicky Chandhok, told a local newspaper that a circuit will be built in three years in the regions of Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra or Karnataka.
The city Hyderabad, although previously linked with a Grand Prix bid, had been ruled out, national newspaper The Hindu wrote.
“By December-end this year, the Formula One Management will zero-in on any one state, depending on their funding criteria,” Chandhok, chairman of India’s federation of motor sports clubs, said.
Bernie Ecclestone last week revealed that he is ‘far down the line’ in negotiations for a grand prix in India in 2010. South Korea will also stage its inaugural F1 race in that year.
The 75-year-old told financial news agency Bloomberg: “We had to make sure we found the right place in India and we have.”
