Ecclestone Thinks Montoya Will Return to Formula 1
Quote selected text Published August 17th, 2006 in MainBernie Ecclestone has cast doubt on Juan Pablo Montoya’s apparent determination to see out his motor racing career in the NASCAR series. Although departed McLaren Mercedes racer Montoya frequently muses about an impending ‘10-15 years’ in the American tin-top category, Ecclestone reckons the 30-year-old will be back.
“He felt unloved at McLaren, because very often they criticised him,” Ecclestone is quoted as saying by Eurosport Automagazin in an interview to be published on Friday.
75-year-old Ecclestone added: “He came to a point where he didn’t know what to do or what he wanted, so he thought it was a better idea to take a break from Formula One.” “I believe he will return.” For the time being Ecclestone says he will miss Montoya, who hails from Colombia, because he is a ’special character’. “F1 needs drivers like him,” Ecclestone added.
