Champ Car’s Days in Montreal Look to be Numbered

The Toronto Sun is reporting NASCAR’s managing director of events and operations told the paper yesterday that he expects to make it official within 60 days that the NASCAR Busch Series will race at Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve next season.
That is essentially a death blow to the Champ Car race in Montreal as only two events a year can be held at the track in accordance with the lease Legault has with the city and there is no way the wildly successful F-1 race would be replaced.
O’Donnell did, however, quash rumours out of Montreal that NASCAR could hold its race in conjunction with the Champ Car World Series Grand Prix of Montreal, which also uses the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for its event.
“That has not been discussed with us,” he said. “We have talked to Normand about a Busch race. We have not had discussions about other events.”
