Rory Byrne has finally confirmed reports that he will stay at Ferrari for at least three more years.
The South African, 62, handed over control as the team’s chief designer to Aldo Costa some time ago, but maintains a consultancy role.
Byrne, previously tipped to retire to Thailand with his wife, told the Milan-based Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera on Wednesday that his new contract will see him stay at Maranello based Ferrari until 2009.
Technical Director Ross Brawn, who is expected to commence a ’sabbatical’ next year, said: “Rory has got huge experience and we want to use that.”
