Andretti, Unser Jr. Decline Texas Motor Speedway Offer
Quote selected text Published June 1st, 2006 in MainFresh off their IndyCar returns at the Indianapolis 500 last month, Michael Andretti and Al Unser Jr. have both declined Texas Motor Speedway’s sponsorship offer to compete on the June 10 IRL date at TMS. The track has offered $100,000 to have the veterans taking part in the race, which marks the venue’s 10th anniversary.
“We would have very much liked to have had both of these IndyCar legends run here but we understand and respect their decision,” TMS president Eddie Gossage said.
“They gave it thoughtful consideration and tried hard to put it together, but coming on the heels of an exhausting month at Indy there just wasn’t time to make it work properly. I wish we had come up with this idea earlier and made the offers so the teams could plan, budget and staff accordingly.”
