SPEEDTV.com/Robin Miller is reporting that Andretti/Green Racing was able to sign Danica Patrick because it’s struck a $21 million deal with Motorola to sponsor the Indy Racing League’s most popular driver.

Sources say it’s a three-year deal for $7 million a season which, by today’s standards, is a blockbuster.

Michael Andretti’s relationship with Motorola goes back to his CART days in 2001 and it’s believed the Chicago-based electronics giant only wanted back into open wheel if Patrick was involved.

Patrick blasted into national prominence in 2005 when she became the first woman to lead the Indianapolis 500 and finished fourth. She also added three pole positions as a rookie.

It’s time for Danica to show what she is really made of, and I know this team will allow her to do that. In my opinion, testing is one of the most important aspects of having a good race team and i’m sure Andretti/Green along with Motorola will do everything in their power to give Danica and the other drivers the tools and time they need to be sucessful!
