Toyota says recall won’t affect NASCAR

The head of Toyota’s racing effort says the company’s massive recall announced this month and subsequent losses won’t affect the manufacturer’s NASCAR teams. “Our program is pretty well set,” Lee White, president of Toyota Racing Development, said Friday. “Our program involves technical support more so than writing checks. TRD is very good at managing our budgets. … I honestly don’t think there will be any impact on the motorsports program. But we, like everybody, have to be smart and keep our programs where they’re success-oriented that reward winning, that reward good results and not just be out there for fun.”
On Jan. 21, Toyota recalled 2.3 million U.S. cars and trucks and halted production of eight models this week following reports of an accelerator pedal defect. Shares of Toyota stock have fallen 17 percent since the recall, according to a report on Bloomberg.com. And one industry insider familiar with inner workings of the manufacturer said Toyota was losing $500 million for every week assembly lines remain idle.
tisk tisk. and to think they could have fixed this problem in 2007 when they knew about the whole unintended acceleration thing. better luck next gen
the throttles must not be sticking on the Trucks, NW or Cup cars…
Werner,
Just so you know that even though Toyota did not win the Truck series drivers title they did win the truck series Manufacturer tile with 14 wins compares to Chevrolets 2nd place finish with 10 wins.Lets not forget when Kyle is in a truck race in his Toyota he is more often then not up front dominating or competing for the win. Also with Benson last Championship in Truck series he secured Toyotas 3rd championship in a row for Toyota in the truck series.
For the Nationwide series lets look back and remember that Toyota was made to install a restrictor plate, so other teams could compete with them. Toyota had not broken any and were with in Nascars guide lines, they just simply were able to produce more horsepower. Also Kyle had the most Nationwide wins in 2008 and the championship in 2009 with 9 wins 25 top 5s, and a record setting 2,698 laps led, also Logano another toyota had 5 wins. Also Vickers, Hamlin, Ambrose and Scott Speed all scored wins in 2009. Total in 2009 Toyota accounted for 43% of NASCAR Nationwide Series victories, and 37% of the pole awards after only three years of being known as one of NASCAR’s 4-manufacturers.
The cup series, Lets not forget some have called Hamlin Johnsons biggest threat last year (in a toyota), alos Toyota came 2nd in the manufactuer championship behind Chevrolet. Since toyota has been in the series since 2007 they have recorded 21 wins. Its only a matter of time until Toyota wins a championship in the cup series.
too bad kyles gas pedal wouldnt stick and be just thrown in the wall and out of everyones misery… the most undeserved racer out there… such a whiny lil baby.. give him 10 min into the race and be complaining..
Well written 88feva, I cant tell if you suffer from Ebonics are or just like the majority of Jr nation and pure white trash. Your use of the word “BE” is like no other.
With that said I love people like you, cause you truly know nothing about this sport other then that JR exist in it. Speaking of undeserved, how and why do you think Jr has received the opportunities in this sport that he has. Well Jrs daddy of course and Jr is riding those coat tails as far as he can. Dale sr gave Jr his first cup ride, which he may not have been able to land on his own. Then he goes to Hendricks, why, because long long long time ago when Jr was still a child, and since Dale Sr was an accomplished racer. Jr was around Mr Hendrick and they wrote a contract on a napkin, clearly that was not based on talent. Current day, if was a regular cup driver and his daddy wasnt one of the best of all time, Jr would be looking for a ride after last seasons performance. Jr finished 25th in points, mean while you have other guys who finished ahead of him and sponsors pulled out and they lost a ride, or team diminished and finding a new team wasn’t exactly easy. You say Kyle is undeserved well trust me, Kyle will continue to go on shattering records as he has been doing and Jr will fade into the background, and think how at one point in time he was on the BEST cup team of it’s time and he failed to take advantage, is a lack of determination or talent, I say it’s a huge mixture of both.
blah, blah, blah, blah.. thats all i ever hear… you post so much crap must be like 600 lbs and cant get laid to have no life outside this website.. have a great day = )..
and p.s. everyone has a bad season man.. u ride that guy like a whore.. hes the cool cat in the garage… he doesnt have to have that im going to beat everyone and everything out there and win win win… hes about ppl and making change in the sport… Nobody can outsell the merch he can and thats great for everyone involved… Everywhere you go on tv you see him.. nationwide commericals he pretty much owns the series nobody has that.. Wrangler commericals.. Amp energy ( hear he’s going to have a super bowl commerical)..has the skill and the strings to pull a good racer from Indy cars onto his team… Owns and operates his own team and a bar plus his own racing.. come on man give the guy some credit….
88feva……not once did you mention Jr’s on trak achievements…that is where i rate the drivers…

wow looks like im late to the party,ok let me get my two cents in here, JR since 2005 has won only 3 Sprint cup races, Kyle Busch has won 16 sprint cup races, for their carriers JR has two more wins than KB, however JR has run five more full time season then KB if you count the 2000 season, when JR ran 34 races. So that being said, JR is more deserving how? Granted he has two more wins but that’s with five more seasons under his belt. I’ll give JR credit, not just anybody can go into the highest level of racing and win 18 races, but come on JR nation let’s face facts here, KB has more talent and more abilities as a driver. After the 2010 season if trends continue KB will have more cup wins the JR in half the amount of time. Werner you say you want facts so here you go, JR nation just admit it, the reason you hate KB is because he has the talent you wish your driver has. I have no problem with JR has a driver, (except blame everyone for his failure except himself) but that goes back to his fans, they have these fantasy about how he’s going to be the next Richard Petty or Dale Sr. Jr will never win a Championship in the cup series. If he want to win another championship he needs to go run full time in the nationwide. So here are the facts and ill list my sources below. Now JR nation it is your turn to whine, complain, and come up with whatever excuse you have to tell yourself that you are not just jealous of the wins KB has put up in the past two years.

Werner,
Your right he didn’t mention any of Jr on track accomplishments, which is typical of jr nation. When they are presented with indisputable evidence they have no rebuttal for they turn to insults and jokes.
88FEVA,
Jr’s is about making change in the sport you are 100%, Nascar changes rules to cater to poor little Jr. As with the shootout this year. As for outselling other drivers, from what I hear that is debatable as the Jr nation crowd is dwindling< I believe Howie has a pretty good insight on that. As for every where you go you see him you are also correct, because people like you mark out to him like he is god. Advertisers depend on people like you because they know you will go buy that pair of Wranglers or Amp and so on. As for him having the "skill and strings" to pull a good racer from indy. LOL LOL LOL are you serious, first of all she is average at best in the IRL, she has 1 win in that series. Also im sure Jr didnt do nearly as much as you think. Im sure Kellie and Mr Hendrick put that together. Lets be honest Jr can barely put a sentence together much less a Million dollar contract. Danica is nothing more then what Jr is, both of them are good for one thing, and that is to attract sponsors. Jrs nationwide team needed sponsors, HMS worked the deal with Danica and along comes GO DADDY to help in sponsor issues. As for operating his own team, not even close Tony Stewart operates his own team, as for the bar, who cares he is a racecar driver, thats where his focus should be. Maybe if he focused more on racing and doing what it took to win instead of all these other nonsense activities he wouldnt have the year like he did last year. Not to mention Jrs results last year were a disaster, Kyle had a horrible year and finished 12th out of the chase, and jr finished 13 spots behind that. Bottom line is Jr is an average driver at best and if his name was Smith instead of Earnhardt his life would be extremely different.
