Tony StewartTony Stewart isn’t complaining about the way NASCAR resets the points when the Chase for the championship starts. The two-time series champion knows the rules are the rules and besides, he won his second title during the second year of the Chase in 2005. But after dominating the regular season, Stewart admits he’d like something — anything really — for his efforts besides a spot behind top-seeded Mark Martin when the 10-race chase begins on Sunday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Martin starts the Chase with a 10-point cushion over Stewart and Jimmie Johnson based on his series-high four wins this year. “I think there should be a $1 million bonus to be leading the points, and not just because it’s us,” said Stewart. “I think there should be something. It doesn’t upset me that the points get upset, but I do think there should be a reward for the team that is leading after 26 weeks. That’s an accomplishment.”

When any other sports series goes into their playoffs does the team with the best record at the end of the regular season get “honored”. Not really that I can think of.

Yes and no. They get something better than an honor. They get home field advantage. Kind of hard to do that unless you’re going to move the race from Loudon to Eldora!

I don’t have a problem with it – they give a special reward to the 13th place finisher at the end of the year, so why not prop someone else up while they’re at it? It does kind of suck that you do all that work to be in the points lead and then NASCAR says sorry, that didn’t mean anything, so I can see where he’s coming from. I wouldn’t mind some kind of bonus points/money for leading at the end of the ‘regular season’.

They get T Shirts made that say they ar division champs and they booze it all night… Maybe Smoke just wants free booze and a shirt

Some sort of point advantage wouldn’t be a bad idea. It’s fair. Money is nice.. but it’s not going to help them any in the Chase.

I agree baseball, football, basketball they get home field advantage,so yeah it’s crap a guy thats leads the points pretty much all year starts the chase and isnt the points leader anymore thats stupid,ok yeah you get bonus points for winning races so they should give the points leader after 26 races a bonus maybe 100 or at least 50 points.

I think a fair solution would be that the points leader at the end of the regular season starts 25 points up on second place, keep the same method of a reset and 10 points per win, but do it for 2nd through 12th, with 1st place up 25 points

Mike Helton just said on This week in Nascar, that they had a good crowd at Richmond. That is 100% BS. I have been to the last 12 Richmond races and this was by far the emptiest I have ever seen Richmond, normally E. Laburnum is grid locked around 10 a.m. this race it was a pretty steady flow. Not saying this is nascar fault but this is a tell tale sign of the economy. Now he is addressing the issue that Smoke was in with winning the “REGULAR SEASON”, and he says they are looking into it, but pretty much dodged the question.

Attendance is down at all the tracks. I was at the Daytona july race and they didnt sell any tickets for the backstretch and the front wasnt sold out at all. But im originally from Texas and sales have declined a little in this economic time. Bruton Smith tracks are still doing good cause he isnt afraid to drop a ticket price but that whole F*CKIN France family only cares about a buck and it all started with that no good Bill France Sr.

tony i agree, the driver leading the points after 26 weeks should be reconized given 10 points and a nice check.good luck in the rest of the chase.
