Ryan NewmanRyan Newman took the lead after a late caution at Phoenix International Raceway and held off Jeff Gordon (FSY) in a two-lap shootout Saturday night to get his first victory since the 2008 Daytona 500, and first since joining Stewart’s new team last season.

Kyle Busch (FSY) was cruising to what would have given him a weekend sweep when a caution flag came out with three laps remaining. When the lead-lap cars pitted, Busch took four tires and came out eighth — behind six cars that took only two tires and Jimmie Johnson (FSY), who also took four and was seventh out of the pits.

“He’s so proud of me,” Newman said after breaking a 77-race Sprint Cup winless streak. “He told me he loved me and I told him I loved him back because it’s his name, I’m representing him and a lot of people behind us.”

Gotta give an Attaboy to Robby Gordon for a Stellar run, his best finish since Atlanta II last season.

Was a pretty good race, but man that extra 100km made it feel really really long.

i was pretty pissed when the last caution came out, i had money on shrub and would be 200 bucks richer lol

WTG..Ryan. A nice surprise for sure. I thought Kyle had it won, just goes to show us in racing anything can change quickly that is why you never want to miss those last (30-some) laps. :)

New Sponsor for Newman and he wins. It was time for him to produce 1 has to wonder if Rick Hendrick just hired Ryan’s replacement. I think SHR is going to grow next year, Harvick is on the market too.

Congrats to the 39, let’s hope it does not take another 77 to get the next win.
