Sprint CupSprint Nextel may be a takeover target, according to one of the nation’s largest investment banking firms. Deutsche Telekom, owner of T-Mobile and the world’s sixth largest phone company, may consider acquiring Overland Park-based Sprint to block a price war in the mobile phone industry, analysts for Merrill Lynch said today.

The Wall Street firm said Sprint’s operational problems and shaky position in the U.S. wireless industry may force the company to cut prices even further to attract customers. T-Mobile generally is considered to be the low-cost alternative among the top five U.S. mobile phone companies.

Last week, Sprint introduced an unlimited voice and data wireless plan that undercut other U.S. companies. Lynch, which advises its clients to sell Sprint shares, said it is not aware of any acquisition discussions.

Great. Another change! Can we please get a stable company as the title sponsor of the Cup Series? People like Winston and Busch were in this thing forever… How long will Nationwide and Sprint be there, or T-Mobile for that matter?

I’m conserned with these reports for two reasons: 1) I’m a Boost Mobile customer and paid alot for my phone and 2) I’m kind of hoping Sprint leave NASCAR after what they did to AT&T and if they leave, AT&T should be able to stay.

No sponsors (non-adult) should be be rejected from sponsoring a team in NASCAR.

Also, Verizon Wireless is on on this one too, they want to own sprint.

Racedriven, Winston had the same exclusivity contract with Tobacco, Busch had it with Alcohol, Craftsman has it with tools. Its nothing new, and its time for all fans to stop acting like it is.

Now onto the topic at hand there are two words that stick out to me in this article, and they are “may consider”.

To me this sounds like in an interview somebody from T-Mobile said something along the lines of the following “I don’t like that Sprint is offering lower priced phone service then we are, and If I had my way Sprint would no longer exist”. And that got spun into the article we have in front of us today.

Rumors like this happen all the time in the corporate world, but all 99.98% of them are is rumors, and the only reason we are hearing about this is one of the parties involved in the Rumor is heavily involved in the Sport we love and follow so closely.

Even though they had a similar cotract i dont recall ever seeing RJ Reynolds going crazy because of a car sponser

That is because the only Smoking Tobacco car sponsors that were in the series were brands of RJ Reynolds. And there were no Non-RJR brands in the sport when RJR came in.

im likeing that logo and I have t-mobile so hey why not. I could care less about sponser changes as long as its still Nascar who gives a f^%k. I had to go through the whole Comiskey Park changing the Us Cellular field. Wrigley Field might be sold and changes as well… Big deal its still baseball. Welcome to america

Exactly, free enterprise, the people with the most money get the most stuff, You think you have more money then that group of people then you have the right to try and buy what they have away from them. And I hope that does not change anytime soon, because that is is one of the things that makes America a great country to live in.

As far as the sponsors, I don’t care who they are as long as they are there. After all in sports we don’t watch for the Sponsors, but the Sponsors allow us to watch the sport.

fishas rite bout the contract stuff. i dont think its rite but thats how it is. but IF sprint does get sold then that should void the contract somhow and i hope at&t would be allowed to stay. prolly wont happen but itd be nice to see a devoted sponsor allowed to stay.
