The buzz in the garage has Earnhardt Ganassi Racing shutting down the #8 Chevy and sidelining Aric Almirola after this weekend if a sponsor doesn’t magically appear. If that happens, three contracts are affected: #1-Martin Truex Jr., Bass Pro Shops Racing and Chevy. Truex’s contract states that he must have two teammates or he can leave the team.
Bass Pro Shops has a performance clause and with Truex 28th in owner points, the #1 team is in a precarious position. Finally, Chevy can alter its support to EGR if three teams are not under the roof. The hot rumor at Martinsville last week had Truex replacing Joey Logano in the #20 Home Depot Toyota. Joe Gibbs Racing president J.D. Gibbs insisted Sunday and again by phone on Wednesday that “Joey’s our guy. We haven’t had any conversations with anyone,” Gibbs said. “We’d like to have someone in line by summer time, but you have to sit down, look at what partner is available, what driver is available and who would be a good fit for the team. We had #96 Hall of Fame last year and we don’t have it now. So we have room for a fourth team. We’d love to have it.”
Gibbs mentioned JGR’s plans to run the #02 Farm Bureau Toyota to race later this season. An announcement was made in January that Farm Bureau Insurance was signed for six Cup races in 2009, including being the primary sponsor for two Cup races on Denny Hamlin’s car at Darlington and Atlanta and on Logano’s car at Martinsville. A fourth team will feature Farm Bureau as the title sponsor for the fall races at LMS, Texas and Homestead. Gibbs did not believe Farm Bureau was committed to a level where it could expand as a full-time sponsor in 2010.
Truex said on Friday that he’s committed to staying the course. “When I give someone my word by signing a contract, if they keep theirs and I keep my mind, there’s no reason to ever think about doing anything else, obviously,” Truex said. “Right now, my focus is on getting this car better and moving up in the points. We’re back here where we shouldn’t be. We’ve never been back this far before and we’ve had a tough start to the year.”
As for Bass Pro Shops, if Truex does leave. don’t be surprised if the sponsor fills out Ryan Newman’s program on the #39 Chevy at Stewart-Haas Racing [US Army is there for 23 races]. That deal, which is valued between $8 million and $10 million, could go down before summer.
Lee Spencer wrote the article which means there is a 99.999999999999% chance that it’s completely made up BS.
Also Bass Pro is with EGR THROUGH 2010, and there is no out in that contract.
Oh note though, Martin Truex Jr Motorsports is going to be fielded Toyotas for I guess either Curtis or Ryan, whichever one ends up driving for MTJM first.
“Dave Moody over at Sirius Speedway is reporting that Martin Truex and Bass Pro Shops still may not be at DEI/Ganassi Racing next year. In a nutshell, both contracts (Martin and Bass Pro Shops) require that he have at least 2 Full-Time teammates. That’s part of the reason that DEI merged with Ganassi. The only teammate he had left at DEI was Aric Almirola and the unsponsored #8 car.”
This was an article from Dec. 2008 , but in a nutshell , it said that Truex and BPS could end up at Stewart / Hass in 2009 or 2010. Stewart said he didnt want to have a 3rd team untill the 39 and 14 teams were solid , but he wouldnt rule out a 3rd team if the situation was right.
So, when TEI/Chip and Felix go belly up…Truex and BPS could be team #3 @ Stewart / Haas. I think that would make a cool 3 car team. And lets dont forget that BPS does sponsor Stewart cars on the dirt circuits.
“SPEEDtv’s Hermie Sadler reported that EGR’s President Steve Lauletta said they would be meeting Tuesday to decide the fate of the #8 team and that Bass Pro Shops is signed with EGR thru the 2010 season and there is no ‘out’ for them.” ~Jayski~
Well if someone from EGR said it , then its probably 99.99999% BS. The past things they’ve said were , Jr. isnt leaving , Budweiser isnt leaving , Paul Menard isnt leaving , we’re confident Army will be back on the 8 car , etc. Does anybody see a pattern here?

Those deals were all dependent on the driver, this deal isn’t. Also if you notice the person who said that is no longer with the company. Plus for all intensive purposes this is Chips company now, the Earnhardt name is just on it because it guarantees some money coming in. And while Chipper may not be the smartest man in the garage, and he may not be the most un-shady guy the in the garage, he runs his race teams like what they are, businesses, and he’s upfront and truthful with just about everything relating to those businesses. A lot of NASCAR team owners run their teams like race teams, meaning they sugar-coat a lot of things, but Chip (and Roger for what it’s worth) don’t play that way, if it’s bad they say it’s bad.
Teresa Earnhardt amazing Management skills will save the day! “sarcasm”
I’d rather have her management skills, then Sr’s skills to not be able to pass somebody without wrecking them…..

WRONG. When you have to wreck people because you don’t have the talent to pass them, you are no where close to being hte best thing that ever “rode” on a race track.
I thought just John Andretti and Kyle Petty rode around…everone else is driving.

Once again your wrong he didnt have to it was just the fastest way to the front and btw if you were in front of me on a race track i would bump you out of the way in a heart beat just because i could.
The only people that spin to pass are people that don’t have enough talent or skill to make a well timed over-take.
But I’ll say this, if you’d spin me, I’d find you and make sure the front of my car goes through the drivers side door of your car.

LET ME ASK YOU THIS…..CAN YOU RACE BETTER THAN SENIOR???
I BET YOU $1,000,000,000.00 YOU ARE A EARNHARDT HATER THATS WHY YOU TALK AND THINK YOU KNOW ALL ABOUT RACING, RIGHT???
Give me a break, fans against JR. Hey the man is not winning race after race, although I would like to see that! I am not a Jeff Gordon fan, but I am happy to see him win a race. I remember when everybody was against him for winning to many races, I now consider him a team mate. If anything how about fans against Kyle Bush the cheater, he deserves some kind of fans and I can’t think a better fan base than FANS AGAINST KYLE BUSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And yes Just me, you are right, senior is the best Nascar will ever see or ever have for that matter…

My point was that if you’re “Man” enough to wreck somebody, you better be man enough to deal with the consequences of the chrome horn coming through your window and bouncing off of your helmet.
Poor fishy, The truth is he was dead wrong about Teresa being the great manager and he can’t admit it! Without a real earnhardt at the wheel she destroyed DEI. She has no skills and the proof is in the pudding. DEI has failed without an Earnhardt running the show…….
Oh, and I don’t have to defend Sr because everyone that raced with him say that he could drive better than anyone else on the track. we all know that fishy is not a driver and never will be.
In this sport all teams come and go, in a Hendrick, RCR, Roush, etc will all be gone eventually, that is how this sport works.
Oh and all those people you mention, yeah they didn’t say that till ole Ralphy died. Sorry but I’m not the kind of person who does a 180 on their opinion of somebody just because they died. When you do that, you’re not true to yourself. He was a wrecker plain and simple, and it finally caught up with him and he got what he deserved. It’s only a matter of time till it catches up with Shrub and the others too…..

You have that right Sam, Earnhardt’s the blood Earnhardt’s are good at everything they do and alot of people can’t stand it, if Jr had a good crew he would be good, who knows it might not be Jr’s fault, that remains to be seen.

Teresa doesn’t manage the team. Jeff Steiner is the EVP and GM, and Chad Warpula is also a EVP. All Teresa (and well 99% of team owners in the series) do is sit at their desk and sign everything and anything that comes across their desk… Kinda like the President of the US.

So now you are saying she only signs checks? Well , we do know that she is depositing fewer checks now than when she had JR and Bud giving her twenty five million plus.

I’m not a fan of ESPN’s journalism that much, but the article at the following link describes it 110% correct.
http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/nascar/cup/columns/story?columnist=newton_david&id=4064471
And actually now that I read the article JD linked too, the article I linked to is pretty much a solid rebuttal to it. And for those too lazy to click the link and read it here is a little quote that sums up Jrs situation at DEI perfectly.
“Do you think Rick Hendrick would give Jimmie Johnson 51 percent of Hendrick Motorsports if he threatened to leave? Or the No. 48? Hardly”

So that everyone understands Fisha,
He thinks that Teresa Earnhardt is as good a business person as Rick Hendrick!
So that everyone understands what Fisha is saying!
Teresa Earnhardt = Rick Hendrick
In business!
Does anyone else agree with Fisha?

I sure would like to see some pictures of you doing this, PROVE IT FISHA…
If I had a scanner I would scan in pics for ya. But the basic week schedule goes like this.
Monday – Tear down, list making, data entry (data, from previous weekend gets catalouged into pc)
Tuesday – Repair/maintenance/prep
Wednesday – Repair/maintenance/prep
Thursday – put the cars back together, start setup
Friday – setup cars, clean cars, get EQ ready for the weekend.
Saturday/Sunday – At the track.
Yes there is some periods of free-time during the week, and during those times I help out with the regular automotive part of the business.
Back on topic: RUN MARTIN RUN! GET AWAY FROM THE BAD MANAGEMENT ! INTELLIGENT FANS PREDICTED THE DOWN FALL OF TEI AND WE WERE CORRECT…….
IDK, I’d rather be at EGR, then at a team that is backed by MWR. I mean I understand him wanting to take his personal team to Toyota once his contract with Chevy is done, but why would he align it with MWR when JGR is the only Toyota team really doing anything super-impressive.
Rusty Wallace considering ‘10 Cup move
NASCAR Nationwide Series car owner Rusty Wallace said he hopes to move his two-car team to the Sprint Cup Series in 2010. But the situation would have to be perfect. Rusty Wallace Racing fields two Chevrolets, for Brendan Gaughan and Rusty’s son, Steve, in the Nationwide Series. “Ideally, if all the moons lined up, I’d start in 2010,” Wallace said at Nashville Superspeedway, where the Nashville 300 will be held Saturday. “Two cars. I’d want Stephen and Brendan to go right in.” But Rusty Wallace would need a partnership with an existing team in order to stock enough inventory of cars and engines. Also, RWR would need the right level of sponsorship. Richard Childress Racing provided RWR with engines in the Nationwide Series, and Wallace said he’s had casual conversations about a Cup alliance with RCR. SceneDaily.com
Truex has said nothing about leaving but i see him and Bass Pro Shops at Stuart Haus next year in the #8 since it’s now available and he would be guaranteed top 35 for 2010
Truex has said nothing about leaving but i see him and Bass Pro Shops at Stuart Haus next year in the #8 since it’s now available and he would be guaranteed top 35 for 2010
The 8 IS NOT available. EGR still has it.
they shut the team down, you know they wont be able to bring it back
they shut the team down, you know they wont be able to bring it back
They still own the number for the rest of the season, and they have first dibs on it for next year. In order for another team to run the number they must have both EGRs permission as well as NASCAR’s permission.
Morgan McClure Motorsports hasn’t raced the 4 in how many years, but they’ve kept paying the $1500 a year to lease the number from NASCAR in order to control it. RCR is doing the same thing with the 3.
well it really doesnt matter what number he would run but way Stuart is running he would be able to offer Truex that top 35 starting spot he couldnt before and since Truex and Bass Pro’s contracts expire at the end of year the choice will be his to make and i think the chance to run Hendrick equipment will be too much to pass up
Truex is going to end up in a Toyota.

You’re a cool dude, ho, ho, ho, I gotta meet you fisha, I like people who know Martin Truex, he is my favorite racer, I watch him on my 65 inch big screen in my private little room, when I can get away from Mrs Clause, I want to shake your hand sometime Fisha, ho, ho, ho…
There is no way i would want to be the 4th team at JGR for whatever reason a 4th team there never meshes well
There is no way i would want to be the 4th team at JGR for whatever reason a 4th team there never meshes well
It’s not JGR either. His own personal team is going to be aligned with MWR for next year. He wanted to do it this year, but Chevy nixed the idea, so that is why Ryan is in the MWR East series car. I was told this Saturday by a driver who is an East Series driver (albeit only Part time this season) and who is close family friends with the Truex Family.
Expect Curtis to jump over to MTJ Motorsports when his contract with JRM is up also.
This is for all you goofy Jr haters out there.
