Brian FranceOn the heels of another report of a drop in TV ratings, this time a 16% dip over last year for this weeks Atlanta event, comes another indication that there could be a chink in the once impregnable armor of NASCAR.

Just weeks after rumblings that there could be a change in the NASCAR leadership with current CEO Brian France stepping aside for his uncle Jim France, there seems to be speculation that NASCAR itself could be for sale.

AAAH my brain is going to melt with all this happy news! First Brian may step down, then maybe no points for cup regulars running in the Nationwide series next year, and now this!!! I swear this has been the best couple of weeks in my whole life! (not really, but close)

Brian was in charge for less than 10 years and the ship is already sinking…what a joke.

F1 is owned by CVC Capital Partners is a global private equity group, which is not that good for the sport.

You have to assume if NASCAR is sold it will be sold to a similar group. Which will not be that good.

This is what happens when you mess with what was working. Taking dates away from tracks, instituting the chase, etc. It is blowing up in their face and now they want to run and hide.

    Good
    More open-wheel racing- less NASCRAP

Bud a boring Nascar race is still 10 times better than your already beat down open wheel cars…….why are the open wheel drivers transfering and Sam Hornish can’t even quailify? No talent monkeys drive the computer driven open wheel segment.

Make every race 100 or 150 miles shorter that would bring fans back… more racing.

FIA will somehow get their hands on NASCAR and we will see NASCAR go thru alot of changes that will make it better in the long run. We’ll still have the regular NASCAR that we know, but we will also have a NASCAR Europa, NASCAR Asia, NASCAR Down-Under, and NASCAR South America. Hopefully they would set up a cup series in each of those regions and we would truely be able to find out who the StockCar racing World Champion is.

I hope this is true because Bill France has totally ruined the sport. I just hope that someone with NASCAR history ends up buying it. I’d hate to see it get worse than it is right now!!

You know I kinda Quit watching because whos going to win every week WELL we all know who.
Thats why sales are going down, Now when everyone has the same car and the same chances then
I may start watching again but who wants to see the same people every weekend win?

My husband asked if I knew who won I just told him to tell me who came in 3rd and 4th.
    Who cares who wins anymore!!!!

  15. 15 Hunkerdown Registered User

Rick Hendrick will buy it, much as he is buying his drivers a cup championship this season. Seriously thou, the tv ratings have dropped for reasons like HMS win almost every race this season, who other than Gordon & Johnson fans want to see that? Remember that year when Jeff won like 12 or so races and Martin won a bunch also? At least they wasn’t teammates and it was Ford vs. Chevy. This snorefest this year is turning my stomach. Bill France Jr. told Bill Elliott when he was stomping the field, you’re not gonna come in here and stink up our show……I guess with Brian France not even making the races, he doesn’t see that’s going on with the Hendrick cars.

Well, such is racing Folks, WE all Know what is going on at the Tracks with WHO is Taking the Win this Week and the Next and the Next.

Lets see, Now Who is Buying NASCAR, ??? Maybe

It’s the Company or Person that has the MOST MONEY, just like the one that WINS EACH WEEK.

    MONEY TALKS, !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The hand writing was on the wall at the start of last year. With the benefit of inside information I can tell you this company has more leaking $$ going on than a Cuban-Miami express raft.
The high life has been good to the France family and believe me they ALL have been at the trough lapping up the $$ to feed there ever growing personal gains. I’m amazed that Hollywood has not turned this circus into a major network show about a family over run with nepotism trying managing one of the biggest sports companies in the US and how they could mismanage it into oblivion so fast.
The France family needs to wake up and realize that owning both NASCAR and ISC has been a huge conflict of intrest that has only breed power struggles among track owners causing the lawsuits that they now are spending millions to defend themselves from.
Selling NASCAR is a win win situtation for all.

Man I wish I was you… You must be some kind of crazy rich person if all you have to do all day is scour other sites looking to see who did and didn’t link to your page in a manner acceptable to you! It is very clear to anyone who read it where they got the story from. Kenneth always lists his sources on every story I read, which is almost all of them. If he did take the whole story, he credited your site, so I don’t see where the problem is.

BTW, your site is so cluttered with ads, banners, and animated junk that it doesn’t render properly at all in Firefox (and took 36 seconds to load), and has all kinds of script errors in IE7. This is on two different computers with two different connections to the web.

Now don’t be an idiot, I wasn’t throwing stones like you are. And sorry you’re having computer problems, you should get that fixed, no one else seems to be having any problems…

I happen to be a big fan of this site, but had no contact info for Kenneth…we have now communicated and as I knew he would, he took care of it…. and I thanked him very much.

No I’m not rich, if I were I wouldn’t be trying to guard my writers work…you should find better things to do when you skip school….

In regards to TV ratings, ticket sales, sponsers
dropping, and etc. This certainly isn’t happening
because the Hendrick Teams are winning. If so,
back when JG was winning as many as 13 races
a season, they would have dropped. Instead,
at this time NASCAR, was building, more fans
were attracted, and women started attending.
When, I started going with my husband, it was
more of a man’s sport. Now it’s more like 50/50.

NASCAR is going down hill, because of all the changes, within the last 3 to 4 years. The new
fans, (if you should call them fans) have grown
tired of NASCAR, and looking for something new.

It seems as if there’s anything “some fans”
don’t agree with, it’s always the HMS owner,
driver, team, crew chief, or anyone that is
    associated with HMS.

Go Jeff!!! See you in Homestead.

If you have this great Blog site to protect why not let us all know it’s name so we can
come over an see what a great job of plagiarism you do. That way we can trash your site like your doing to Kenneth…

PS : Jeff is not a idiot he just calls it like he sees it…

Heh, whatever. There’s a contact us link right on the bottom of pretty much every page here. Pretty tough to figure it out, I imagine, when you can’t even see the link to your own site in the article you’re complaining about. Kenneth has linked to stories at your site in the past in exactly the same way that he did with this one. If it’s such a problem now and you’re allegedly such a big fan of the site, why no complaints before?

BTW, I only wish I were still in school, but instead I’m at work writing software for airlines, so I know a little something about computer problems, and I can guarantee you that I’m not having any. I’ve tried to get to your site on 3 different machines now, including my Dev PC and a Mac in absolute original factory configuration and all exhibit the same problems listed before.

Im saddened that I have no interest in this sport anymore, yet apathetic due to my complete indifference. Is it worth spending 3-4 hours of my Sunday watching a race where 8 out of 10 top 10 finishers can be penciled in before the event starts? The Hendrick juggernaut is sucking the competitive life, and therefore, fan interest out of the sport. He might as well buy the company and just call it the Hendrick Racing Cup.

Short of bringing back Dale Sr. from the dead to race with young cloned versions of Richard Petty and David Pearson, I dont know what can save NASCAR from the inevitable shrinkage it is currently going through. Maybe if they rediscover their roots, the sport collectively will remember what got them to nationwide popularity in the first place.

good maybe if they sell it there will actually be a race everyweek and no favoritism. not whos going to win this time jeff gordon or jimmie johnson

Back on subject…. Well said Cracker Bob. As much as I love racing, I don’t watch nearly as much as I used to, basically because of what you said. You can pretty much write in 8 of the 10 before the race starts. Every now and then someone gets lucky and eeks out a win based on fuel mileage or something, but it’s rare.

I think the drivers have something to do with it, because you used to have those big personalities like Petty, Pearson, etc that people loved and could relate to. Now you have a few of those, but a majority of the drivers are just kind of plain vanilla. I think that’s because of the way NASCAR has become so corporate and clamped down on the drivers… Maybe some of this foreign talent that is coming into NASCAR (Montoya, Franchitti, etc..) will put a little something back in as far as personality goes, which might help loosen everyone up!

My wife and I attended the Bud Shootout from 1999 until 2005 in 2005 the Budweiser horses
were not announced due to the (sic) band that was playing at the time. That one returned
me to sprint car racing on dirt and I haven’t been to a NASCAR race since, nor do I have
any desire to watch a yellow come on, wait for the car or cars involved in the cause of
the yellow flag to clear the pits and then the pits open for the rest of the field to
stop under the yellow and squander 8 to 12 laps of racing. I could care less if they
stopped televising this circus. This is the first year I have watched football in the
    past ten years.

Oh please oh please oh pleeeeeease.
If Bill Jr were still alive/in charge, no. But seeing as he’s not, oh pleeeeeease let them sell it.
    Just not to Mike Helton.

Though I doubt they’re going to anyway.

  31. 31 Jan

I don’t think it will be sold, but they better change things real soon. I hardly watch an entire race anymore. I HATE THE CHASE,I HATE THE NEW CAR, THE 35 RULE SUCKS..Please just go back to racing as it was, go to the old tracks, Rockingham, etc. I really miss the old Nascar.
