Why are they going 2007 points the season has started? Sould use 2008 points.
I asked the same question on the post about qualifying being rained out. Someone else posted a reply and said that according to the NASCAR rule book, if a rain-out occurs in the first 5 races, they’ll use last year’s standings. I think it’s rather lame. They should use the current year’s standings.
But this isn’t 100% last years standings… Mears didn’t finish 5th, Hornish didn’t finish 7th, etc… Why are some good and some not? Am I missing something?
Nevermind…it’s by owner’s points… I just spoke before I thought…
And Hornish is using Kurt Busch’s (#2 car) points , which makes it even more confusing.
Well… it’s still confuses me. They should use THIS YEAR’S stats! Not to be rude, but Johnson hasn’t done anything this year to deserve the pole handed to him. I’m not a big fan of Newman, but he clearly deserves it more than Johnson!
would you all still be complaining if Jimmie was actually in first place for this year so far? Probably, so get over it, they start by whatever the rules are and there is nothing you can do to change it… Jimmie is starting on pole again!! woohoo!!
Someone needs to take a chill pill…..

Didn’t we go through the same thing last year?? When qualifing gets rained out we go to the rule book. For the first five races the field is set by last years finishing owners points. After the first five we go by this years points. It has been that way for years.
I hate to argue with you, Jimi. But since when does the rulebook EVER stay on pace with anything? Oh wait… when it benefits one of those Hendrick boys. That’s right. Disgusting as usual. LOL
I absolutely think this is a stupid rule. The first 5 races revert back to season before points. NO! Points for the current SEASON should be used, and since we had the 500, those points and standings should be the one’s. If we had to go on the 500, under this rain out situation, that is a different deal. NOW, should there be a driver that has no previous points in their CURRENT car, then it should fall back on owners points, then need be, a draw of those very few that may be in that position. And, under NO circumstances should a driver switching to another car/team be able to “carry” points from that old car which is now under a different driver. They should indeed run under either the owner points of their CURRENT owner, or fall into the draw. Plain and simple.
That’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it.. unlike Nascar. LOL
Michelle… We obviously know YOU would still argue that it should be this way since your biased and a Jimmie fan. LOL
This IS a stupid rule. And as I stated above, like others, this should run off current stat’s.

Ok first off i hate Johnson and I can’t believe im going to say this, but he’s the only driver this season to win a poll. He won the poll at the 500, and since NASCAR is going off of last years point, he gets the poll end of story. I’m one of the few who like this, because it makes everyone race until the end of the season, trying to get as many points and move up in the standings as much as possible. With out this system, drivers outside the chase would just be out on the track to run the race, with no real racing going on outside the top 12.
Truexfan…
What does Jimmie winning the 500 pole have to do with him “deserving” the pole here? That’s BS, plain and simple. It should simply go off of these points on this season, that has started and been put in the books.
And, how does THAT make evryone “race until the end of the season”? It doesn’t… end of story. The only thing their doing here is handing more points to Jimmie and their undeserved. Why should HE get more bouns points for the pole, when they didn’t even qaulify? If Nascar is going to run this rule like this, at least they should not hand out the bonus points on the pole sitter with this rule. Its just giving one person undeserved bonus points for nothing. Its not like he WORKED for it. Since their doing it this way, they should just give the basic points, no bonus, since after all its STILL handing sh1t to people from last year, just because of last year. Sorry, but there ARE pints in the book for this season and THOSE should be what counts towards it now.
BTW… Good job to Truex on his run in the 500. He showed why Jr picked him in the first place.
As for qualifying for the 500, they scheduled that a week in advance leaving 5 more days to qualify in the event of a rain-out. It’s a new year and the new standings should be used. 2007 is yesterday’s news…. Why even count opints for the first 5 races if there is so much emphasis on last year?
Remember Junebug is a Hendrick boy now.

JAG….
“Junebug” is NOT a Hendrick boy! He is a driver for Hendrick. ONLY Gordon and Johnson are the boys in that garage. I don’t care what anyone says… Gordon and JJ will Always ONLY be about them being the “team”. Its their actions and personalities that prove it.
And in Fontana(practice)… ONLY JJ and Gordo were hanging out with each other. In fact, the Govenator came and spoke with them. But, WHERE exactly was Mears or JR? So who are the “boys” for Hendrick…. Exactly!
JUNEBUG WORKS FOR HENDRICK, AND NOW IS A HENDRICK BOY, NOT BOY A MAN… THE OTHER TWO ARE BOYS.
Exactly JAG!!
“Junebug”… which I dislike using as a reference to him, is a Hendrick DRIVER… a MAN! As I stated before, the “boys” are JJ and Gordon. And the sad thing is, no one talks about the OTHER TEAMATE…. Casey Mears. Even HE is a MAN. The only reference to Hendrick BOYS that have their TRUE meaning and hence, where the term was coined, are those two cheating one’s, JJ and Gordon.
