Yates to resurrect the No 28 with Kvapil in 2008

Robert Yates Racing will resurrect the No. 28 next season with driver Travis Kvapil.
The number, which has been driven by 10 of the 40 winningest drivers in NASCAR history for 76 victories, hasn’t been used since Ricky Rudd was behind the wheel at RYR in 2002.
“Hopefully, we can do the things we used to do with it,” said Doug Yates, the co-owner of RYR.
Among those that have driven the 28 are Cale Yarborough, Bobby Allison, Donnie Allison, Davey Allison, Dale Jarrett and Ernie Irvan.
Davey Allison won 19 races with the number between 1987 and his tragic helicopter death in 1993. Rudd last drove the number from 2000 to 2002, collecting three wins and 53 top 10s. He was fifth in points in his first season, fourth in 2001 and 10th in 2002.
Yates is making the switch because it gave the No. 88 to Dale Earnhardt Jr. to use at Hendrick Motorsports next season.
“We hope it brings back the good times we had before,” he said. “It’s always been a number we’ve been fond of.”

Hopefully with Roush-Fenway racing help it will!
You might as well dig Davey up too because he’d be a better choice than this guy.
Don’t be so harsh, Kvapil is a decent driver, Penske just gave him second-tier equipment during his tenure there. Now he’s where he needs to be, plus he has support from Roush-Fenway. I don’t think Jack would get Doug to put him in his car unless he knew that it would work, I may not like Jack Roush very much (he reminds me of a car-owning version of Bruton Smith, which makes him a self-important jack*** just the same), but I know that there’s alot going into this deal. I truely hope that Travis does well, he’s driving a car that has alot of history behind it, not to mention the number.
Kvapil, like Skinner, Hornaday and Howard Sprague should race in the truck series forever because it best suits their talents. Sprague, Skinner and Hornaday drove some pretty good equipment in other series but just couldn’t get over that hump. RCR, HMS and DEI respectively. I won’t even include Foyt because Foyt is so out of touch with stock cars. If you can’t cut it in Cup or Busch, you either go to the truck series or ARCA. I’d choose the truck series because it has a certain level of bravada.
Get the eye patch ready. I’m dragging Ernie into the fray. Fix his eye. There are so many things they can do now that they couldn’t at the time of the injury. And he’s got a little bit talent mixed in with a big set of coconuts.
Rofl, that’d be cool George, I wouldn’t mind having ol’ Irvin back.
