Ryan NewmanAutoracing1.com posted the following story regarding NASCAR qualifying and suggests NASCAR fixes qualifying so certain drivers win the pole.

Do you agree? Read on….

—————————————————————————————-

Rumor has it that almost every pole position in NASCAR happens for a reason. Some say you cannot believe the times the computers put up on the screen for the pole winner. Let’s examine the Atlanta results.

“Just getting things right with our Dodge,” Atlanta pole winner Ryan Newman said. “This is the exact same car that qualified 39th last week and finished eighth [at Las Vegas]. We knew it was a good race car, we just needed to get it figured out.

“We struggled last year and it feels good to be back in this seat,” he added.

Newman ran away with the pole despite a miss in the engine.

“It did it [miss] in both straightaways,” Newman said, grinning. “I was really surprised. But the car got through the corners so fast that the Penske Jasper engine was still able to get it done. It’s a great effort for us and a great result.”

Imagine that! The car was horrible last week, horrible last year at this track, he qualifies with a miss in the engine and miraculously when he crosses the finish line to complete his qualifying the NASCAR Timing & Scoring Computer puts up a number that is fastest by over a one mph. Only in NASCAR.

    In short, NO!

The reality of the situation can be found in the first sentence of the qualifying article.

“Ryan Newman won his seventh career NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series pole at Atlanta Motor Speedway Friday night when he claimed the top spot for Sunday’s Kobalt Tools 500.

Apparently whoever overdosed on Kool-Aid didn’t take into account Newman’s past at Atlanta.
It was much tooeasy tospew some unsubstanciated tripe.

i dont believe that it is fixed. if so why bother with it, i would rather see some of the
longer races shorten. because of driver fatique amd stress, some of them are way too
long and takes its toll on everyone,

Umm, They keep working on the car, now I’m sure they are going to say that now that Ryan changed engines it proves it even more. This is ridiculous, you can make junk competive during a race, the 12 car Started out bad at California, by Vegas it was improved enough to get an 8th place, he likes the car so much they work on it for Atlanta and its even better. That took 3 weeks to get it there now how can you say because the car didn’t do well 3 weeks ago it can’t now, sheesh. Had JJ knocked Newman off the pole can you just imagine what they would say. You can hear and see how fast cars are going even if it isn’t as exact as the scoring and timing.
Get a life either enjoy what NASCAR has to offer or don’t watch but accusing them of cheating and conspiracy theories is the same stuff just a different day. It’s been going on forever, if you don’t like the way they do things don’t watch noone forces you to.

if it was fixed dale jr would win alot more poles right???

How does shortening races have anything to do with fixed qualifying? Nobody cared about shortening races till last week or whatever when somebody brought up the topic.
Now back to subject. I don’t think Nascar NEXTEL Cup series will ever want ALLTEL to win anything let alone a poll. They are kind of competitors in their business. Plus if Nascar had their way Jr. would win every poll.

Great point RG. NASCAR would want Dale Jr winning at least a few poles…no offense but why would they want Ryan Newman winning the pole?

I’m not sure where your coming from with this.
Ryan Newman has always been a good driver, last year he did have a pretty bad slip, but
he was always been known as the rocketman ever since his rookie year.

    Shaun,

Not sure if you’re responding to me…all I meant was that Jr is the face of NASCAR popularity-wise and comparitively speaking Newman isn’t nearly as popular…so what would be the motivation for NASCAR to help Newman PR-wise? That’s the question to refute this story I posted. Newman certainly is a very talented driver.

Dale won his poles and had his greatest finishes during a tough time in NASCAR. Now There is telephone sponsorship troubles cause NASCAR signed exclusive rights with another company. And an Alltel sponsored car has the pole.

I am not saying that they control what is going on , on the track but but anyone who thinks that NASCAR does not have the power to “fix” something is not only stupid but nieve as well. They have as much control as does any WWE wrestling match has.

Nothing in Nascar surprises me, but don;t think they fix the qualifying.
As for Jr. being the face of Nascar, He is not the reason I watch racing, there are many better drivers out there and if he doesn;t start doing something Montoya will be the face of Nascar, and at least he is talented.

  11. 11 RG

dale jr is the best driver in nascar of knowing where his cars limit is and keeping it at that edge and knowing exactly what he wants out of his car which is what his dad was so good at too but if his dad didnt have a good car he just wrecked everyone else but dale sr said that dale jr drove alot like ralph earnhardt always under control and knowing just what he wanted, his problem is that his cars limit is sometimes less than a gibbs or hendrick car, if dei could get there aero packages down as good as their engines you would see jr up there winning 7 races a year…

  12. 12 Sierra

Yes sometimes I feel it is fixed…Rick Hendrick teams seem they can do no wrong and Nascar lets them get by with it. Rick Hendrick has nascar by their balls

  13. 13 susie

That is such BULL@#$?? . No one is more pickery than NASCAR.

yeah, and thats why we beleave everything we see on tv, youve never seen David Blaine or mindfreak!!!! hah, seriously someone DID od on kool-aid

i dont think NASCAR fixes the polls, i think its just the luck of the draw.

  16. 16 Jim

To those Jr fans. Jr is not like his dad. His dad not only knew how to drive but how to help his car’s setup. Jr can drive, but hes to busy try to be a celeb that he doesn’t care about helping with the cars setuo. Then when it doesn’t work right all he can do is whine and criticize his crew.

Whoever originally wrote this article should have either pulled out a stop watch or watched the time stamp on a recording before they opened their mouth.

if anything was going to be”fixed”,it wouldnt be a pole.
even then it would be a hard gamble. how do they know
that an engine wont let go,or a driver gets sideways?
no and i agree,if any fixen was going on,jr. would have
a ton of poles..races cant be fixed unless you want to
bring up this yrs daytona 500..and i hate to reopen
that can of worms again..and what would be the benefit
of fixin poles? no, i dont agree they do that..as for
the miss in the engine, like we have heard before, when
a problem on a car slows it sometimes, your lap times
get better..maybe he didnt have to back off as much
in the corners because it kept diggin after each miss
allowing him to keep her glued to the bottom..just my
    opinion…dwight from http://www.cafepress.com/racing_rags
