On SPEED’s coverage of Preseason Thunder testing coverage from Daytona, that things are up in the air with Jacques Villeneuve and the #27 Bill Davis Racing team.
Villeneuve was to run for the 2008 Raybestos Rookie of the Year Award, but supposedly now, will run the first five races of the 2008 Sprint Cup season and see where the team is after those races and if they get in the top-35 in owners points and the guaranteed spot.
- Villeneuve splits with long-time manager Pollock
- Villeneuve tests truck, will run seven races in ‘07, may do Cup race
- Villeneuve to test at Gateway
- Villeneuve to attempt second Cup start at Phoenix
- Villeneuve aiming for Sprint Cup in 09, Davis still interested

THIS IS WHY RACING IS BECOMIN SUCH A CROCK, WHAT A WIMP A QUITER AND ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO CALL HIM. FOR HIM TO SAY IF I CAN QUALIFY IM QUITTING , QUIT NOW AND GIVE YOUR SPOT TO A REAL RACER THAT WANTS TO RACE. GO HOME
he sounds like a front wiper!
According to what I read yesterday (don’t remember where, it was once of these racing news sites), the team does not have sponsorship past the first five races, and thats why they are saying this. But then again why would you expect a CHARITY to Pay you to race…..?
The charity was never expected to pay anything. Villeneuve is quite wealthy, so he doesn’t mind paying his own way for a few races and giving the charity the free advertising while they look for sponsorship.
ouch howie that hurt lololol

True, but when companies see anything besides a blank car or a call for help (like the yates cars had on them at testing) they tend to turn the other way. If you need sponsors you have to run a blank car so the companies that may be interested can see that you need them.
Holy Crap! Some of you are so blind. It doesn’t say anything about him quitting.
I disagree, Fisha. In fact, they could use it to their advantage. If Unicef’s donations rose in the last quarter of 2007, the team could attribute that to exposure through motorsport and use it as evidence for the effectiveness of big-dollar sponsorships. Also, by keeping Unicef on-board, they could use that as another marketing tool (companies love being associated with charity; they love the image). I think it is a smart move, even purely from a financial standpoint.
the guy needs to go back to open wheel where he came from , he is with a team that cant even keep their heads above water, there reputation has been damaged by the bankruptcy and it is hard to keep that team going without a solid sponsor of 20 million a year.
Jocko has a resume even more impressive than Montoya’s. The guy is a great talent and I think he’d make it in Cup. We keep hearing he’s purchasing a piece or all of BDR. The last I heard he was to take control of the BDR group the first of the year. We’re past that point in time and now we’re hearing that they might not run the whole season because of financial strains. So now I don’t know what to believe at this point. He’s been working hard since he got to Daytona. He’s been fast during testing sessions. I believe he’d be fast enough to make the 500 on speed if he didn’t race his way in. He is not a quitter. He’s a racer and I hope he can get the backing he needs. He knows a lot of people and I think a money sponsor would be attracted to him. He’s done well for the charity.
I dont believe it, he is going to run the whole season, count on that!!!!

I believe this as well, he has one of the most impressive resumes in racing. If anyone doubts his oval ability, he did come from two laps down to win the Indy 500. BEFORE THE SPLIT!! He also won the F1 World championship in his second season. Far from a quitter…
Bill Davis Trucking went bankrupt. It’s a totally different entity from the racing teams. But there seems to be a money problem, or lack of money here too. Why? How do you fund race cars and trucks for all these top tier NASCAR series but you can’t come up with a plan for your “world class” driver? Sell the team Bill and take Gail back to your double wide.
