It was a double victory for Brian Vickers’ #25 team Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway. Not only did the Hendrick Motorsports driver capture his first career Nextel Cup victory, the #25 over-the-wall crew also claimed its second win of the season in the weekly Checkers/Rally’s Double Drive-Thru Challenge.
Vickers’ GMAC Chevrolet spent the least amount of time on pit road (247.112 seconds) to take top honors during the 188-lap, 500-mile race.
“Having good pit stops at superspeedways are important because you always try to maintain contact with those cars you pit with in order to have a drafting partner when you leave,” said crew chief Lance McGrew. “I’m really proud of the guys on the GMAC Racing team for their efforts on Sunday. Over the past several weeks, they’ve turned it up a notch which has helped us get some good finishes.”
The #25 pit crew will be awarded with the weekly $10,500 prize. In addition, Checkers/Rally’s will also present the crew with the most victories at the completion of the 36-race schedule with a $100,500 bonus. Vickers’ over-the-wall crew is made up of: Mike Moore (jackman), Jake Brzozowski (front-tire carrier), Tony Hamm (front-tire changer), Matt Myers (rear-tire carrier), Jeff Fabian (rear-tire changer), Chris Fasulka (gasman), Chris Hamilton (catch can) and Jim Jenkins (windshield). The pit crew coach is Mark Mauldin.
With six races remaining on the Nextel Cup Schedule, the pit crews of Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch and Tony Stewart lead the standings with four wins each. To date, Checkers/Rally’s has paid out $315,000 in Nextel Cup Series prize money during this season. The Checkers/Rally’s Double Drive-Thru Challenge is in its second season with the Nextel Cup Series. Checkers/Rally’s is the Official Burger and Drive-Thru Restaurant of NASCAR, more info at checkers.com.
