Two crewmen were injured while performing pit stops during Sunday’s Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway.
Josh Yost, jackman for Jeff Burton’s No. 31 Richard Childress Racing team, suffered a tear to his left Achilles tendon, crew chief Scott Miller said. Yost had returned last year from a severe injury to his right leg during a pit stop the year earlier.
Jeremy Geiter, the rear-tire changer for Mike Wallace’s No. 09 Phoenix Racing Chevrolet, said he had a high-ankle sprain of his left ankle.
Miller said Yost’s injury happened when he jumped over the wall to run to the right side of Burton’s car. Yost, Miller said, completed his duties on the stop.
Miller said Yost is likely to have surgery this week, and is probably out for the rest of the season.
