KansasThe overnight USA TV rating for the NASCAR Nextel Cup LifeLock 400 on ABC 2:00-6:00pm was a 2.8. Race experienced two rain delays on ABC. At 6:00pm, the race went to ESPN2 while still under rain delay. Racing resumed from 7:15-8:30pm ET on ESPN2, earning a 2.1 overnight rating.

The 2.8 was down 18% from 2006’s 3.4 and down 23% from the 3.6 overnight rating in 2005. By comparison the highest NFL football game rating on Sunday was a 12.5/24 share. Football continues to dwarf NASCAR especially as NASCAR’s ratings keep dropping.

    No surprise here.
NASCAR has ignored their fans and are paying for it
    Goodbye Rockingham, Darlington…

No Surprise there coverage is the worst!!!! They go to comercial under yellow and always come back well we’re under green again. Cut away from the race for football basketball soccer whatever. Someone tell them that race fans do not care about anything other than the race on race day. Not to mention last weeks race they go to comercial at lap 32, come back and they have pre race footage on. This went on until they went to comercial then they came back and it was lap 57,(Is nobody watching there own broadcast?) Stupid

Lose ABC and ESPN they’re the worst!!!!

I think a reason why is ABC/ESPN coverage it AWFUL! I mean near the beginning of the race there was a close close 3-way battle for the lead. And what do they do, go to commercial and then come back about 5 laps after the battle, then they show a crappy replay of the battle.

Not to mention (I love Rusty and all) but not as a commentator (Racer yes) and just all the people who do the talking. The lady is just annoying and the Cut-Away car guy they have mumbles most of the time.

Cannot wait for the season to be over. Then we have until June or July before ESPN takes over again and ratings will drop.

I totally agree that the coverage is AWFUL. Why doesn’t NASCAR get a clue? Someone needs to tell the commentators that there isn’t an “n” in Zipadelli. They kept saying “Zip-n-delli”. DROVE ME CRAZY! OF course, they never show Tony… unless he’s doing something wrong. I know… I know… Tony is at war with them and that’s probably why they don’t show him. Do y’all remember a few races ago when they went to commercial with only a few laps remaining??? How ridiculous is that?!?!?

I do think a lot of it is the abc/espn coverage… But I think most of it is to do with the inconsistency of Nascar’s rules and policies. It’s turning into WWF here. They are making up and changing rules on a weekly basis. It’s beginning to be a huge problem! I think all of us fans are just fed up. I know I’m starting to be.

I have (or should I say had) yearly tickets, for
    Daytona,(July and the 500.) I called yesterday,
and cancelled both events tickets. I explained
my reasons for doing so, which were all the above, and more. I don’t agree with the driver additions to Nascar. It seems as if Nascar has
different rules for each drive. Such as the 20
car can hit the 15 on pit road and the track
under caution–no penalty or warning. Jr can
take someone out, (take the blame, which it
is usually his fault) and that in itself (according
to Nascar) is enough for Nascar. We should
remember the battle between the 15 and Hamlin.
Menard (15) returned the favor, Sunday.
I was told, when I cancelled my tickets, that
they were receiving alot of complaints and
    cancellations. Our comments are supposedly
reported to “NASCAR HIGHER UPS” whatever
that means. One thing I forgot to mention,
when I called, I agree that lady on ESPN.
I think her name is Susie, her voice even
irritates me. Gotta run, guess I’v b——
    enough.

I love racing, but get so fed up with NASCAR’s BS. I come from racing and try an try to watch it each Saturday and Sunday, based on the drivers, Not NASCAR.

I wish, they’ed do a survey of what the fan and view wants to see during a race. I know they are trying their best, but I get so fed up with all the BS and watching NASCAR play to certain drivers and stables. Just let the drivers Race for God sake. NASCAR has such a choke on on everyone and everything, it’s not even racing any more. Everything is so generic. What happened to the real stock car racing battles. They are all gone from all the tracks. If someone even touches another car, everyone yells, UNFAIR, he touched him. Give me a break.

NASCAR need to return to the roots of racing and go back and watch the some old tapes of old races from the 70s, 80s, 90s, when racing was racing.

This is what’s wrong : You cant race . You cant talk, You cant touch, and I’m waiting for You cant look next.

and stop with all the adds during the RACING. At least in Football, I can see all the Game……………………… In Stock Car Racing I only see abt one fourth of the race due to adds. Use a split screen during adds, that would help.

Man there were some good football games this weekend!

At least Dega will pull a crowd! The Chase races need to be revamped!

NASCAR makes it up as they go along, always have. A lot of these same things happened back in the day. The only real difference is that now they do it with more of a loose cannon approach. And as far as the ads go, it’s a sponsor driven sport. If the football players had company logos on their backs, then they’d have a ton of commercials too. IIf you don’t like it..move along. I’d be happy to have an easier time parking and some room to stretch out in the bleachers.

Moonshiner you are right on it.

Someone needs to tell NASCAR it’s RACING!!!!! “LET THEM RACE”

Beatin and bangin, yelling, punching, fighting, finger flipin, get out of my way i’m winning attiude.

Its a RACE you RACE a RACE to WIN.

Comercials the race itself is a comercial

I just said in another post, they better get some feelers out there and see what their fan base thinks before they lose them. Like they’re loseing me and many of my race friends.

Love to see some REAL RACERS in charge of nascar

I know everyone is going to think I’m crazy, I would too if I was just reading this, but what i think we need to get nascar fans to do is to flood nascar with e-mail/ snail mail. Let them know how the fans feel, that we don’t like the way Nascar is heading. It’s a long shot that they will listen too us(the fans), but it’s better than losing the sport we all care so much about. My feeling are if it wasn’t for us, they wouldn’t be where they are today. I’ve only been a nascar fan for a few years, but I love it and I live it. Let me know what you think.

NASCAR has done so much correctly. NASCAR has grown by leaps and bounds……So why is the future, why are the ratings destined to suffer, and more so if NASCAR continues as in 2007.
The history of this great organization is factual, the way it began and progressed from moonshining to amazing success.
So many things done correctly, the allegence to GOD and country. Such as, remove your hats for…………and now …….will give the invocation. The Star Spangled Banner……….The fly over of our military………drivers and crews showing respect………..the support for our military…………WOW this is America.
Then it happened at Daytona in 2007…………..when I saw the pre-race show I made the comment and it came crystal clear………..now NASCAR has elected to try for ratings with sex……….showing skin……….an afront to the vewier and to our creator.
SEX ON NASCAR WILL NOT INCREASE RATINGS !!!
So this great organization will decline as it trys to grow in inappropriate methods. So sad to see greatness decline.

Nascar has forgot about the fans that made them the superstars they are. They are now trying to get the minorities and to he** with the good ole boys. I have been a race fan my whole life and I myself have threatened to not watch next year. I don’t enjoy the ESPN announcers at all. They are a total snooze fest. They are clueless as to what is going on, we miss all the restarts, all the lead changes and all the crashes. Nascar has become all about the GOD almighty dollar and it is all thanks to Brian France. He alone has ruined Nascar. I hope when ole sis takes over she will get it staight and bring back our old Nascar.
