Truex and Stremme under consideration to replace Newman

Penske has offered no hints as to who might replace Ryan Newman. Martin Truex Jr.’s name has been mentioned, but Truex’s current contract with DEI is still the subject of legal debate, and it is unclear if DEI will indeed force Truex to return for another season or give him his release. Truex has been pushing quietly to become a free agent.
David Stremme, who drove for fellow Dodge owner Chip Ganassi until being released at the end of last season, has been a Penske test driver this season, and Stremme could also be under consideration.
- Stremme still trying to land Cup ride
- Stremme will replace Austin in RWR car at Nashville
- NASCAR Considers Increasing Number of Drivers in the Chase
- Stremme to Nationwide Series, Cup also?
- Tums scheme for Stremme at Michigan

What happened to the Mears talk? The Penske come to his senses? Good luck getting Truex! If he does become available, Penske would have to be his #4 choice, behind SHR, JGR, and RCR.
Mears has strong ties to Penske with Rick driving for them back in the day, Stremme still is employed by them. but they are looking for someone to win a championship and let face it, how many drivers out of 43 are capable of winning a championship. lets be honest here about 20 drivers are capable of that and of that 20 how many are available?
This would be a big mistake for Martin!!!! Just say NO!
I don’t think any of the top 20 are available except Newman and Martin Truex Jr. I have a sneaking suspicion they are both headed to Stewart-Haas Racing. Bass Pro comes along since Smoke has ties to them and they love Marty! and of course Newman too who loves to fish.
WHY WOULD ANYONE EVEN CONSIDER GOING TO A TEAM THAT DOESNT HAVE ANYTHING TO OFFER, THIS TEAM HASNT PROVEN ANYTHING AND IF I WAS A DRIVER AND HAD PEOPLE CHASING ME ID BE LOOKING INTO THE TEAMS WITH A BETTER RECORD THEN THIS TEAM

I think that Johnny Morris would go with Stewart/Haas if things fell apart at DEI. I am familiar with Johnny since I use to do work with Sr. and I know how Bass Pro and DEI and RCR have all been close throughout the years with Sr. going on trips with Johnny and all. Bass Pro are very devoted to the sport and to Sr’s company and it would take alot to pull them away.Martin could sway that big time if he and Tony had a deal because they like Martin and they like Chevy. If Martin was to go to RCR then I know that Bass Pro would go with him but I dont think they would go to a Dodge.
NEWMAN HAS WHAT 13 WINS, NOT TO SHABBY TO BAD HE DOESNT GET THE SUPPORT THE JR GETS WITH HIS 11 WINS. HOW BOUT IF NEWMAN WENT TO THE 20 CAR AND GIBBS KEPT LOGANO IN THE NATIONWIDE SERIES TO POSSIBLE BE IN THE 4TH GIBBS CAR IN A YEAR OR TWO.
I don’t think Ryan will go to Toyota team Rowdy. I think he will in fact be with Stewart-Haas and be back with Matt Borland. Ryan could also be thinking long term also. He is after all an engineer with a degree in Vehicular Structural Engineering from Purdue. He could step right into an engineering role when he’s done racing and as I’ve said in another post I don’t think Penske had that for him.Gibbs either maybe RCR would but I doubt it. Truex is gone from DEI I believe because of this latest fiasco with the roof and the penalties. Would not surprise me if Bono went with him.
Howie I think if things continue at DEI, Bass Pro will have no other choice to go to a Chevy team like RCR or SHR. They have ties with Truex and Smoke and those Father’s Day commercials they made together were too cute. Sponsors dream if you ask me.

THINK ABOUT IT LIKE THIS, IF YOUR A DRIVER AND YOUR LOOKING TO WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP GIBBS IS PROVEN CHILDRESS IS PROVEN TO BE WINNING TEAM AND TO GO INTO AN UNKNOWN SITUATION WITH SMOKE WOULD BE A HUGE RISK, THAT HAS TO BE SOMETHING I THINK HE WOOULD CONSIDER, ALSO THINK ABOUT THIS HE IS THE #1 DRIVER ON HIS TEAM IF HE GOES TO GIBBS OR CHILDRESS HE WONT BE THE #1 DRIVER OR WITH SMOKE FOR THAT MATTER. EITHER WAY I THINK WINNING IS THE REASON HE IS LEAVING AND I THINK HES LOOKING TO GET A CHAMPIONSHIP AND YOU WOULD THINK HE WOULD GO WITH A TEAM THATS PROVED IT CAN DO THAT, I WOULD LOVE TO SEE HIM AT STEWART/HAAS BUT THIS COULD MAKE OR BREAK HIM IN HIS CAREER HE STARTED OFF STRONG WITH HIS WINS AND KNOW HE HAS BEEN DEAD OVER THE LAST FEW YEAR MINUS THE 500 IF HE GOES TO A STARTUP TEAM HAS ISSUES DUE TO THE TEAM NOT BEING ESTABLSIHED THAT COULD SEPERATE HIM FROM A POTENTIALLY GOOD DRIVER TO A DRIVER THAT DID GOOD AT ONE TIME

Its funny how people talk about good drivers and how they are better than Jr and those drivers have fewer wins!
DAMN YOUR RIGHT HE DOES HAVE 18 I DONT WHERE IT HOUGHT IT WAS 11 LOL HOW COULD I FORGET AFTER ALL THE FUSS WAS MADE A FEW WEEKS AGO WHEN HE GOT THAT WIN, JR IS STILL OVERRATED
Once Truex leaves, Menard will take his (daddy’s money) sponsorship with him and
as well and DEI will basically be the museum we all thought it would be.
Eventually even the Earnhardt Sr merchandise will stop selling and Teressa will have nothing….Besides her reputation…

Or lack thereof!

If Newman is going to get a championship it will be with Matt Borlan and he is at Stewart Haas Racing and it doesnt matter about what worked for someone else
Ryan and Matt will be together again, you can bet on that, Ryan and Matt have been friends for years and when all is said and done Ryan will be at Stewart/Haas .
Sorry but my inside source says Logano is going to the 20 car. If Joe and JD didn’t think he could handle it they wouldn’t do it.

we know hes going to the 20 car with Greg, but he wont be ready next year, its just crazy to put a 18 year old kid that never raced at any professional level into Cup.its not only unsafe but most driver wont draft or feel safe with him. he has never even raced on a superspeedway. its JDs fault for thinking that Tony would resign with them.
Howie you are so right it’s not fair to Joey to put him in this situation or the other 42 drivers. JD is not his father I will give you that. He comes off a little cocky and arrogant at times, something his father has never been–cocky or arrogant.
I also agree with Jim B–Truex will go and Paul and his daddy are on the way out too. Rumors are Mr. Menard is talking to Yates.
i think that Paul should either drop down to another series or quit. hes been in the sport for 4 years now and has shown he is not competitive. I was in Milwaukee when he won the ARCA race years ago and had a bbq with his family. very nice people but he is not cut out for Cup.
It’s hard to say with Paul. He has shown some promise and he’s not in the best equipment. He is a nice young man for sure from a nice family. DEI has not done him or Truex right–not to mention Junior! It didn’t take Mark Martin long to see the Dismal Extraneous Incompetence–that’s my new acronym for DEI or if you prefer TEI that would be Terminally Extraneous Incompetence. Boy Smoke was right it will be a museum because Harvick’s deadbeat owner is terminally incompetent.
I think you take skill as cockyness. Logano is alot like Kyle. I agree DEI will be a mesuem but a sad one. There have been other drivers to skip the Busch series and do just fine in cup. You have to remember Logano has been doing this since he was 5….
Sorry typo museum…

ok, i dont know of one driver in the last 15 years who has come to the Cup level without any experience in the professional levels being ARCA, Truck, or Nationwide. it just does not happen. you have to have experience to race with these guys at these speeds. I have heard this before and you know what I have seen it first hand with one my cousin Brett, he can race anything with wheels and has won everything there is to win with over 800 wins and i cant count the championships. He came to Daytona to race in the Cup series and crashed and walked away. Then their was Steve Kinser hired by Kenny Berstein to race in the Cup series and I love Steve he is a racers racer. a half a dozen races I think and he walked away. thats just two that I know of. We all raced when we were kids and some are gifted and some are not. just because Joey raced midgets since he was 6 does not mean he can race cup. I when to the Rock with Greg and Tony and yeah he beat Kenny, not by much but he beat him and led the whole race and alot of that was the equipment he was in too.he is very talented but to throw him to the wolves at 18 is crazy.ask anyone around that knows NASCAR and they will tell you the same. This is a JD Gibbs move and his father didnt even think it was a good thing so what does that tell you?

Why do people constantly babble about her being the only one that has any ties to that merchandise? Richard Childeress has to sign off on it if it involves the paint scheme or the number, GM has to sign off on it, the other sponsors that were on the car has to sign off on it it, if it has a NASCAR logo, NASCAR has to sign off on it, and guess what THEY ALL MAKE MONEY FROM IT.
well, I dont think Sr. stuff will ever stop selling with the Retro shirts from 1993 and up now and I stop by that trailer every weekend to say hi to Mr. Williams a man with pure white hair who has been on the trailer for 12 years. and if you have nothing to do you should just stop by because if you want to hear stories he can tell them, and he does not mind either. as far as the profits from Sr. Teresa does not get them. after Sr. died the will stated that the profits get divided up to the kids and grand kids. believe me she does not need the money from that. she is loaded
I think from what I heard today that Penske is going to put David in the car next year.
