Toyota has submitted its proposed Nextel Cup engine to NASCAR but is still awaiting a response, Lee White, Toyota Racing Development senior vice president, said Monday.
The Toyota teams at the “car of tomorrow” test at Michigan were using truck motors with Cup-approved carburetors.
“The engine that we’re using here is essentially a hot-rodded truck engine,” White said. “It’s a truck engine brought up to Cup power specifications. It’s not the engine that we will be racing in February in Daytona.”
White said he presented the block and cylinder head to NASCAR two weeks ago.
“It’s really a matter of them getting all of the right people in one place … to look at the parts and talk about what the engineers are seeing and make sure they agree with the box that they’ve described,” White said. “Once that’s done, I would expect that we would have final approval. At this point, there’s no indication that there is any issue.”

nascar is an american sport leave the f**king non american cars out of it. nascar was not made for toys it was made for fords, chevys, and dodges and all the other american made cars that have been evoled in the past. i love it how toyota is so sure of them selves that there gonna get approved, i hope nascar denys there ass
I love Xenophobic rednecks, this is he new millenium and somehow they have a cowering fear towards the thought of a foreign manufacturing in their series. Wake up it’s 2006 and we live in a world economy and nothing you buy is soley made in America anymore and considering Toyota makes more cars in the US then let’s say GM these days I say they deserve to be there.
Who gives a sh*t! This series is already so homogenized and homologated that you can’t tell one car from another without a decal advertising what the hell it is supposed to be. There is no Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge anymore so they might as well have Toyotas. Hell, let’s race Maruti’s as well. You never know, the Indians might come in and kick butt! If the American iron is that good then there shouldn’t be a problem… if not, well, competition breeds innovation and excellence.
Toyota not only makes more cars, but they make better ones! Maybe if they come in and clean the American’s butts, then they’ll get up off they’re bloated ‘you know whats’ and start making the cars they used to!!
This is great. Variety is the spice of life. NASCAR has always allowed any manufacturer who produced a certain amount of a model of car to enter it into competition since atleast the late 50’s. Japanese or not, they’re built here. Dodge may even be less American than Hyundai nowadays. Who cares anyways? Toyota will be using its technology and experience to create NASCAR Cup cars. They shouldn’t even bother calling them Monte Carlos, Fusions, Chargers or Camry’s. Bottom line… New manufacturer = more money for the sport & better competition. Just let em race!
