Toyota gets engine tweaks to become more competitive

The Toyota teams competing in all-star weekend activities at Lowe’s Motor Speedway won’t have different engines than they’ve had so far this year, but they will have a new combination in their engines aimed at helping them compete better. Lee White, senior vice president for Toyota Racing Development, said Wednesday that the changes are part of Toyota’s efforts at “continual development and improvement of the product we have.”
White said results of chassis dynamometer tests following the Cup race at Atlanta earlier this year showed that Toyota has as much top-end horsepower as any other manufacturer’s engine. But at lower RPMs - when cars are trying to get off the turns and back up to full speed for straightaways - the Toyotas were not making as much power as other cars.
“We’ve been working a lot of hours, seven days a week, trying to make the power curve look more like that of the people who’re beating us,” White said. The improvements include changes to existing parts and did not require NASCAR approval. “There was no going to NASCAR and saying, ‘Can you give us this or help us out,’” White said.

How bout some driver tweaks?
Thats BS.
They should do their homework and figure out how to make it faster without having to go cry to nascar about it.
You dont have a fast racecar overnight.
Thanks nascar, your really making this year SUCK!

hey chris: READ the article. they EXPLICITLY state that they are doing their homework and NOT going to nascar.
here, I even quoted it below for you:
“The improvements include changes to existing parts and did not require NASCAR approval. “There was no going to NASCAR and saying, ‘Can you give us this or help us out,’” White said.”
man, kids in the third grade have better reading comprehension skills.
Well you can bet NASCAR is will show it’s WWF side now, looking the other way, while Toyota makes changes, the officials will look the other way. BRAVO Nascar! Waltrip thanks you for doing so and saving his @ss and the NAPA sponsorship. Let’s see CHEVY is stomping over the competition particularly Hendericks bunch and Nascar see’s it as they are smarter and tested more, don’t come with that line of BS, they pay the france bills and always had. It’s well known They made changes on all the fords back in the 80’s because Bill Elliott was as they called it “stinking up the show” They want Chevy and Toyota to run for the lead and to heck with the others. I really don’t see why Ford and Dodge don’t get out of it, their fans are losing interest and don’t get the speed channel and won’t see the race this weekend but you know what in my 20 plus years as a fan, I’m not really sad about it. It’s gonna be the same BS we’ve seen all year. You’re losing a fan here Nascar and it won’t been the last. See how much fun you’ll have just with toyotas and chevys running.
hey moron. read the article. it clearly says that toyota CHOSE to modify parts that did not require nascar approval.
malcolm, chill.
I didn’t feel like reading the whole article because its about Toyota, and I can’t stand Toyota.
Toyota doesn’t need a tweak, they just need better drivers/teams.
Yeah Toyota chose to modify parts but im sure NASCAR had to allow some of it, im sure they didn’t just do stuff without nascar breathing down their necks. Im sure if Chevy wanted to modify parts they would have to ask NASCAR (nascar should say no, but if its coming from hendrick nascar will drop the soap for them)
So nascar had to allow Toyota to do some of this. Then again so many new rules everyday who knows what’s against the rules and what isn’t against the rules.
Have a nice day

obviously toyota cried to nascar this off season to become more competitive, and it worked!!
