Tony StewartTwo-time NASCAR Cup champion Tony Stewart is no fan of expanding the field for the Chase For The Nextel Cup, but he does like proposals that would increase the number of points given for race victories.

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver, who won his 2005 championship under the format, criticized reports that the Chase could expand to 12 drivers beginning this season on his radio show.

“I still think it should only be 10 [drivers],” Stewart told the audience of his Sirius Satellite Radio Show. “I mean, what’s next? It goes from 12 to 15 two more years down the road, and then it goes from 15 to 20 and this and that? No more than 12. It shouldn’t have been more than 10 to begin with. That’s a quarter of the field.

“Why do we need to bring in more than that? But I do like the idea of 10 more points [for a win].”

I am not a Tony Stewart fan, but I do agree with him.
Ten drivers for the Chase is more than enough. Sure don’t
need more. Having 12 drivers, it pure ridiculous!! NASCAR,
will you please stick to 10, otherwise years down the road,
you may face some problems. Have you looked that far ahead?

Yeah, I agree…I think Brian France is too busy drinking and joy-riding his Lexus to think things through!!

Tony Stewart is the smartest driver. He’s down to earth and he knows what he talking about. When he gets upset about something, there IS a logical reasoning behind his anger. He is a real thinker. Like the announcers on the SPEED channel said, Tony should be the official spokesman for NASCAR.

    Love ya Tony :D

    I 2nd that reply.

I wouldn’t go that far to say Tony Stewart is a down to earth peron causecause he person, cause he’s not near that kind of a person. He’s
phoney as can be!! When he speaks, he expects or wants
everybody to listen, and yet, he doesn’t even listen to
himself when he speaks. There is no logical reason to act
the way he does when he gets upset. Other drivers do get
upset from time to time but do you see them act like Tony? A
big FOOL!! Stick to the driving Tony, and keep your comment(s)
to yourself when the media comes up to you. The best
statement you made–is when you said 10 should be enough
    for the Chase …….

i thought the chase was the top 10 OR any driver within 400 points of the leader of the points but i can see 15 drivers in but i really like more points for winning .

10 drivers + anyone w/in 500 points, more points for winning races & points awarded for qualifying (don’t hate).

Some people should learn some spelling and grammar, and how the English language works before they attempt to criticize other people. I don’t think this article had anything to do with whether or not anyone is a Tony fan. He’s human just like (most of) the rest of us and they all act the same when they’re pissed off, as would any of us in their position.

It doesn’t bother me one way or the other how many are in the chase, I just enjoy watching them all race. Tony’s one of the best drivers out there and from what I have seen he doesn’t like change much, so given that I can see where he’s coming from.

I like more points for winning. That’s what it is all about….winning!

Is he afraid of more competition? Why should it matter if there are more drivers in the chase? Before the chase started, the whole field were up to win as long as they could get the points and wins… its all about consistancy for everyone. Those who are consistant and can be up front at the end should deserve a chance at a championship. If they aren’t good enough to be near the top, then they don’t deserve it. Tony would have been fine with the top 12 being in the chase this past season, since he was in 11th place he would have been more than happy to be included in it… but now he says no way? Yeah whatever!! I hope he ends up in 13th place and is left out again this year.. LOL
