Tony Eury Sr, Director of Competition at JR Motorsports, talked with Claire B. Lang on XM Satellite Radio Tuesday about the developments in the JR Motorsports Busch operation this week. He told her that he and the JR Motorsports team visited the team at Hendrick Motorsports yesterday. JR Motorsports and Hendrick Motorsports have merged their Busch operations and Eury told CBL he was amazed by what he saw.
Eury Sr. said: “I had not actually been through Hendrick Motorsports until yesterday and I took my first tour through there yesterday and we all sat down and kind of tried to address this thing out how it’s going to happen you know how it’s going to work. Kelly (Earnhardt Elledge) and myself and Dale Junior and Rick (Hendrick) and Marshall (Carlson) and Doug Duchardt you know and Ken House and everybody thats involved in this deal we all just trying to figure out how we’re going to make this thing work and no bumps in the road. And I actually took my first tour yesterday with Kelley through Hendrick Motorsports and I really was amazed at what I seen you know. I actually made a phone call to Tony Jr last night after I got back and told him we need to pat ourselves on the back if we ever outran a Hendrick Motorsports because it’s one heck of a race shop no doubt about it.”
Claire B. : What was it that they had that you were so impressed with or that you saw?
“They are just swarmed with engineering help I mean every building you go in is engineered very well they just have the seven post rig and they have just all kinds of engineering stuff to work with. They have the…the engine shop is just amazing the machine and equipment the CNC stuff thats running in there. You know it’s it’s just really amazing to walk in there and see so much stuff going on and they build a lot of carbon fiber seats for a lot of the drivers over there, they have a carbon shop. It was really just amazing to walk through there and see how much he has accomplished, you know, in his racing career because he has really built a really nice place over there.

Okay. Haha.
This coming from a man that has worked at the place (DEI’s shop) that ten years ago was the best facilety in racing. To be so impressed with HMS shows me how much DEI must have fallen behind. Let’s hope this Ginn merger gets them back to were they should have already been.
I think a lot of teams are behind Hendrick. Hendrick is winning the majority of the races for a reason. In racing, that usually means knowledge and money. Money buys engineering resources and knowledge comes from those resources.
thank is its all good
I think that Junior made a good bussiness decision in going with Hendrick because he saw that with a shop and people like that there’s no where to go but across the finish line first. Which I hope he does many times and is very successfull with
Hendrick.
This guy was also a candidate for “Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader” and the first one in his family to wear shoes.
Do not disrespect Pops, he’s one of the most respected people in Nascar. Btw what have you done?
cool
This sounds like a cousin covering his family. It is obvious DEI is on the brink of domination and cousin Tony is covering for JR’s decision to bail out on his daddy’s team.
DEI put JR on the map, they created wealth and notoriety for him and he has turned his back on them….shame on him!
AHH the Jr. haters just cant keep there stupid mouths shut can they? This article was not about JR. or his cousin it was about his uncle and how impressed he was with HMS.
i say get in there fat boy! soak it up and lets win the whole damm thing next year!!!
DEI on the brink of domination?..
Are you kidding me?
I’m a huge Jr fan and they are no where near where they should be.
Both Jr’s are struggling getting the car’s to finish races in the top 5
whether Martin had a spurt of a hot streak or not.
They still need ALOT of work to do. Good luck to them all.
I’ve done more than you can imagine. But that’s not the topic here. Where would Tony, Sr. be without the family connection? How about his kid? These guys are probably good, but how good? Johnson’s team has had more wins and a Cup title in a short amount of time. Two years less than Junior’s team. Sure the Tony Eury gang won Busch titles, but we’re talking Cup here. The present. Kenseth lost a few Busch titles to Junior but did win 2000 ROTY in Cup and a Cup title driving for a pr*ck like Roush! I rest my case. And I am not a Gordon, Kenseth, Junior or Johnson fan either. I just like to watch good, hard nosed racing with little or no whining.
GG,
I agree, the family thing is a joke. Why not get the best person for the job….not the best family member for the job. You can’t keep up with Hendrick, GJR, and few others playing the family game. You have limited your resources.
Everyone blamed Theresa, who said Grandpa Tony and his son are good enough to race those guys? He doesn’t seem to know what it takes to stay current and competitive. Don’t be surprised if he doesn’t make it at Hendricks racing.
He seems to think engineering has something to do with cho-cho trains.
“engenearing….what’s that?”
What is he doing wearing a E hat, shouldn’t he be wearing a HMS hat?
