Sirius Speedway has learned that Chevron-Texaco will not return as sponsor of Juan Pablo Montoya’s #42 Dodge next season. The Texaco-Havoline brand is in the final year of its sponsorship contract with Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates, and a media representative for Ganassi Racing confirmed the move this afternoon.
Texaco-Havoline will not move to another team in 2009, electing instead to end their longstanding involvement in NASCAR. That decision leaves Ganassi Racing in need of at least two new sponsors in 2009, and possibly three. Team owner Chip Ganassi recently parked the #40 Dodge driven by Dario Franchitti due to lack of sponsorship, and there are longstanding rumors that Target may not return to the #41 Dodge currently driven by Reed Sorenson.
- Wrigley joins Texaco Havoline as co-sponsor of the No 42
- Gordon to run Nicorette scheme for the No 24 at Las Vegas
- Montoya will attempt Cup debut at Homestead
- Montoya wins Rookie of the Year
- #42 Dodge to honor legacy of Jackie Robinson

Ha this is great! I hope Ganassi folds like a cheap card table!
BTW, nothing on the reports that Logano is going to take over the #20 in Sprint cup for ‘09?
Ganassi is in serious trouble now.
You can’t find a sponsor for an marketable guy like Franchitti,
what makes him think he can find one for Montoya
Im sure Big Red isn’t going to pick up the extra.
And if Target leaves… there goes the 41. Along with his IndyCar operation
LOL
I think JPM should be sponsored by the border patrol.
While I find it hard to believe that Texaco-Havoline would leave NASCAR altogether, meaning not sponsor a car in NASCAR, however Texaco possibly leaving the #42, which brings up Target (which has said there on board in the past) and Big Red? Damn, what a spot to be in.
I can’t feel sorry for a tool like Ganassi. People told him years ago he bought junk when he partnered with Sabco. He thought little of Elledge who has recently turned Team Red Bull around. He dumped Stremme and screwed Dario. Ganassi is a hard headed fool with a lot of money even though he has made one mistake after another since joining NASCAR. I will never feel sorry or sad for this tool. Godbye, Mr. Chips!

Target would only leave the 41. Target is getting a return on their investment in IRL (1st and 3rd in points) but not so much in Cup.
Would like to see JPM in the 20 car to give Lodgano time to develope.
Would be interesting to see him in good equipment.
Texaco / Havoline have no plans at all to be involved in any way with the sport. They are done.
We already know this Howie
We are reading the same press release that you are
