Teammates Blaney and Mayfield talk about their 2007 season
Quote selected text Published February 10th, 2007 in NASCAR News“I was very encouraged by the Daytona test in the way the Toyotas performed, but even more in the way the team performed. Kevin [Hamlin, crew chief] had a plan for every minute of the test and goals for every test run for both cars we took down there. We pretty much followed that plan, and it really worked out for us. Our Toyota Camrys were fast, and we feel very confident in what we’ll be able to do not only in Daytona, but for the entire season. We’re excited about this year, and we think we have the chance to really improve the performance of this race team right from the start of the year. Last year was a struggle, and we know that there may be some bumpy patches this year too. We’re already a much stronger team that we were last year, and the switch to Toyota and the people that Bill Davis Racing has brought on board are a big part of that. Like I said, though, what we accomplished during our Daytona test was really impressive to me and a testament to how serious we are about our performance in 2007.”
Jeremy Mayfield:
“We were pretty happy with the way our 360 OTC Toyota Camrys ran in testing, and we’re confident that we’ll make the 500. But I’d be lying if I didn’t say it’s a bit of a stressful situation, not having any points to fall back on. I guess the good thing about Daytona is that there are a couple of different opportunities to get in, even if you have some sort of catastrophic problem during the week. We’d certainly like to see all three of the BDR Toyotas make the race so we could try to work together during the 500. This 360 OTC team has done a lot of testing since last year, and I’m really pleased with everything we’ve done. The opportunity to be a part of Toyota’s entrance into the Cup Series is really exciting, and I’m glad to be a part of that and of the whole Bill Davis Racing organization. I’m looking forward to getting the season underway and getting back to doing what I know best.”
