Two-time Sprint Cup champion Tony Stewart expects to be fined by USAC for an “altercation” with an official during Thursday night’s race at O’Reilly Raceway Park.
The incident occurred after points leader Tracy Hines, who drives for one of Stewart’s two midget teams, got into the wall and there wasn’t a track official or push truck present to help get the car back in the race.
Hines’ crew reportedly attempted to change a right rear flat and get him back into the race before another restart. As they pushed the car to the front of the straightaway, a USAC official indicated they were too late.
Stewart then came down to pit lane to get an explanation for the call. He reportedly knocked the headset from the official’s head and then shoved him.
“We had an altercation,” Stewart said Friday after unveiling the car number (14) and sponsors (Office Depot and Old Spice) he’ll showcase for Stewart-Haas Racing next season. “It was a situation [where] we didn’t understand a call they made.”
USAC did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
Stewart said the incident ultimately could cost Hines, who finished 22nd, the USAC crown. He also admitted if he had to do it over again he wouldn’t have confronted the official.
“When you’re sitting there and you’ve got your corporate sponsors there and you’ve got a car on the racetrack and it’s sitting on pit lane and they can’t get a push truck to it, you’re supporting your guys and your team that worked on that car to get it back out,” he said.
“There was definitely a disagreement. We talked about it after it happened and after the race was over. It got their eyes open and they’re doing everything they can to make sure incidents like that don’t happen again.”

This is bad news for his driver, but good news for the fans. Good to see the man sticking up for his guys.
2 days in a row im agreeing with rowdy…..
and on top of that he lost the caps!
keep it up man, theres hope for you yet!
im a jr fan and i dont like kyle as a person…
HOWEVER I do love the attention he is bringing along with him. Gotta have a rival, sr and waltrip in the early years, sr and gordon (fan made rivalry they were close in reality)
and now jr and kyle (not sure if theres anamosity between them or not, seems like it but it could just be a fan thing.)
point is without one the other one doesnt have the same interest (well jrs the golden boy he would regardless) but kyle almost needs jr nation hating him
your right everyone is entitled to their opinions, and although i disagree with alot of what you say for the most part i feel you do it for the same reason kyle does wehat he does, to get the topic going, although sometimes it goes on a tangent and turns against what you said into a hate for you thread.
keep the caps lock off though and everything is cool, caps lock, seriously is annoying more than anything
First of all this has nothing to do with NASCAR, this was a midget race at ORP.
Second, yeah they were not on the ball by not getting the push truck over there and it cost Tracy some time. but for Tony to go over and rip the headset off of him that was wrong. he would have been better off just yelling at him but what he did from my stand point wasnt right and I cant remember when I last saw that agaist an offical.
That’s one of the reasons I love Smoke so much. He stands up and/or defends what he thinks is right. Everyone at some point in their life gets so pissed that they react (whether it’s right or not). He has the b-lls to do it. I’m with Rowdy above with everything he (I’m assuming you’re a guy lol) said about Smoke & Kyle. That’s also true about Kyle taking on Jr nation and I think he’s done a pretty good job of handling it so far!
A little off the subject but that’s one thing that pisses me off about Nascar… they shove the mics in everyones face after an accident, whether their fault or not, and want the intense reaction. But then when they get te reaction they knew they were gonna get, they fine the drivers for swearing or something else… What the hell?
Hey Ganja, I sent you an email…
Also, so what if it has nothing to do with Nascar… this is autoracingsport.com, right?
first of all I was there so I think I know more than you, second of all the official wasn’t a Lil punk. maybe you are
so howie did it happen as explained or is there more too it because to us, it seems like “no big deal” but to you obviously you saw something that happened that we cant comprehend
thanks me, i sent a reply
the problem rowdy is there IS a fine line though.
break all the rules, lose the TV deals, no one can watch, so that would be bad from a fans perspective.
everyone wants money as well so that would be bad on a business perspective.
the question is where is that line that we need to walk on to keep the majority of the fans (fans come first no fans no money anyway) happy and keep everyone else involved (tv channels, sponsors, tracks) happy
well first of all it seems like when Tony is away from NASCAR he goes back to his old ways of acting like a little boy. He knows he is out of the spotlight so he knows he can get away with it. he had another incident last night besides the one with the official that wasn’t a big deal but it caught peoples attention that was around him, but those officials are there for the safety of everyone and they should be respected and they make the calls and sometimes someone misses something. but if that was a NASCAR official he wouldnt be racing this weekend I can tell you that.
exactly what ever happened to the days of the first televised daytona 500 (fight in the infield)
Their is a lot of people on here that disagree with you because you either don’t know much about racing or you just want to argue with everyone. I on the other hand got my first credential in 1979 and still have it and I have been traveling with the teams full time since 1991 so that makes me know something about these guys.
As far as Mike Helton and Brian France they are about everyday in the infields and mingling with the fans every weekend ,and they even eat at the same restaurants that we do. Brian is just like his late dad, always around. before you speak you better know what your talking about. maybe you should get your eyebrows waxed since you dont sound very manly on here.
People come on here to post their opinions. I’m tired of ‘credentials’ being thrown out. We’re fans of racing, whether we work for a track, crew or maybe just watch it on tv like the majority of us. People have opinions, they are all gonna be different than yours, but the bottom line is this sport IS all about the money… and has been like that for a long time now. You manage to always be in the right place at the right time to see all things first hand that get talked about on here in every article. Tony isn’t acting like a little boy, he got pissed and reacted. just like I would do or anyone else with a passion for what he does.
Howie,
Im not arguing with anyone but you, secondly I think you get off coming on here talking bout yourself, it seems in every single “debate” all you want to speak is of yourself and you credatentials or your family in racing or blah blah blah who cares i dont, that has nothing to do with the subject, as for them being around people I have been around these people I have several friends in the industry, and where you need you credential to go I can just walk right in and i have seen how these people act they have there noses stuck up in there and have stepped away from the roots of the series, the only thing young france did somewhat old school was when he was driving home that night to his gated community and had that accident while he was drunk then went home, other then that they all have there noses stuck up in the air, as for your last sentance and me needing to get my eyebrows wax to be more manly lol your right i couldnt think of a better way to be more manly thanks for the advice the liz claiborne
ganja your right the onel clip they play all the time then tell the drivers dont act like that but they use that clip to lure people in

Where do you think you get these stories from ? if it wasnt for people like me and the people I work with you wouldnt get anything. Their are only around 60 of us that cover NASCAR full time and yes if we wernt on top of things you wouldnt have nothing to comment on.
I would probably go on to one of the other racing websites and post my opinions there. And I’m sure they would have someone else who tries to change peoples opinions or insults them for what they think about and deal with it there. I’m here for the amusement… and Rowdy’s posts that piss people off who can’t handle it

not even the statements you make on here are true, you never stay on the subject not once.just look at all the posts you write on every subject. your the only one I know of that gets posts deleted and then asks why.you are disrespectful to some of the greatest men that made this sport like making fun of Dale Sr. and Richard and thats why if you say you know people in this business they wouldnt have nothing to do with you if they knew what you said on here.and as far as you going anywhere I cant go that really makes me laugh.
Nobody has ever heard me trash the King or Sr. you threatened someone else for that, I just joke on there kids who live off there fathers name. Also you were on the one going off topic trying ti impress everyone with where you can go, guess what nobody cares,
Back on subject I commend smoke on stepping up, im just wishing he would have layed the dude out, and howie you said if he would have done that to a nascar official he wouldnt be in the series, what about when kahne pushed that old geezer that fell down he’s still in the series and nothing happened to him
ME your exactly right you try to go against the majority and your satan, but i will gladly accept that role, just as smoke and bukyle have stepped up and refused to make nascar pretty boys as the way most of these guys have, i love the fact that you put a mic in there face your going to get the real deal
How come Rowdys comments in the beginning were deleted?
Censorship is such a horrible thing, Mr. Editor.
Howie, you just referred to us as ‘you people’
That is terrible.
I really dont care how you waste your time, but at least on this forum,
we are all united by a passion for NASCAR.
equality. Your not above anyone so don’t talk like it.
Thanks.
IM being censored and HOWIE is on here talking smack to people
Howie most of the time i’m on your side but not this time. Either you had a bad day or missed that perfect shot or something but your ranting instead of commenting. Btw this is a blogg for everyone and this is the united states last i checked so everyone is entitled to their opinion wether we agree or not so please respect that in the future.
and im the one being censored here whats up witht hat
HOWIE
before this gets deleted you have never heard of me disrespecting sr or richard and i assume you mean petty, SR’s attitude was awesome other then that i never said anything negative about them, now there children thats another situation i beleive both them are living off there fathers name but thats my opinion and im allowed to have that. If you memeber correctly someone else was dogging them and you threatened to beat the guy up. you sit up here and act like you know it all and talk down to everyone and tell us about your life history in the sport which i personally could care less about now back on topic.
since all my other post have been deleted, smoke your the man i love the no nonsense attitude, hopefully you keep it with your cup team
i get deleted for making jokes and they allow BJ WONDER WOMEN to be on here and im inappropriate

I hear you make fun of the drivers, call them gay and make obscene remarks about their wives and girlfriends and you wonder why your posts get deleted. plus you just said you have never been disrespectful about Dale or Richard then was is this you liar. you make me sick.

WOOT WOOT, THATS RIGHT PEOPLE, KYLE BUSCH IS THE NEXT BEST THING, HE ALWAYS WAS AND WILL ALWAYS BE, HE IS ALREADY SHOWING SIGNS THAT HE IS BETTER THAN THE INTIMIDATER MORE LIKE FAKINATOR DALE EARNHARDT, AND HE IS WAY BETTER THAN THE ALMIGHT QUEEN RICHARD PETTY, SO UP YOURS NASCAR AND EVERY OTHER COMPETETOR FOR THAT MATTER, NONE OF THE OTHER DRIVERS HAS AS MUCH CLASS AND LOVE FOR THE SPORT AS KYLE DOES…TAKE THAT JR NATION, SCREW ALL OF YOU AND SCREW RICK HENDRICK….BOOYA…
ok teresa hate to be a real jerk but if you look thats says ROWDY4LIFE thats not me maybe becasue it was in all caps peple thought it was me but the names are not the same, and yeah i do make some jokes who cares you must wear your headset the entire time your at the race cause thats all people do at races is crack jokes on other peoples drivers happens everyday its part of nascar and i have no problem admitting what i say or do but sont accuse me of something i didnt do as you just did. and how come BJ WONDER WOMEAN hasnt been deleted thats not inappropriate, bottom line is i have been singled out, howie threating violence, and my post get deleted please, my first pos on this story nothing wrong ganja who doesnt agree with anything i said agreed with it and nothing in here went off topic until howie got here and the rest of youll the attempt to single me out thats when it gets off topic if you dont like my post dont reply.
IM ROWDY BUSH NOT ROWDY4LIFE, PLEASE CORRECT YOUR STATEMENT ON CALLING ME A LIAR
Actually he isn’t an annoyance to the conversation, I kinda enjoy reading what he has to say about subject because his opinion is similar to mine, I just don’t feel like arguing. I’ve seen other people on here make rude comments, threats and other things and they manage to have their comments stay. The first few comments he said on this column weren’t even rude, but they were deleted. I’ve seen people comment about death and harm to Kyle and his fans so what makes that ok???
I see that now but I also see that when ROWDY4LIFE disappeared you appeared and you talk and spell and type in all CAPS just like him. so I ask myself is this the same guy? maybe
WHATEVER you can try and flip however you want to make it seem it was me but it wasnt, as ll my other comment i think its obvious i have no problem stating my mind
THANK YOU ME im glad people are seeing im being singles out here and im sure all these are on there way to be deleted, and you right my first few comments here werent even rude
Honestly, with everything Rowdy has said, why would he hide behind another name to say something?

I dont think what Smoke did was the same as what Kasey did. Kasey pushed a rent a cop who wouldnt let him go to his motorhome.Smoke pushed a official and will probadly get a fine.
as much as i hate to say it i think he should get fined cause it wasnt right, but i still love the fact that he is a mans man and if hes mad your going to know it, you know what cracks me up about the kasey kahne deal is that its hard to imagine kasey being big enough to push someone to the ground
Im a stewart fan and I can understand him being mad but for him to knock the officials headset off and shove him is uncalled for if thats what really happened.
Maybe the official wasn’t listening because of his headset? Ever think of that? Give em hell Smoke.
Hey Tony way to go! Can ya shove Kyle Busch like this?
Hooah, Go Stewart, Now, this is Racing !!!!!!!!!!!
i think tony shouldnt of given the official a wet willy instead of pushing him
Tony Stewart has never been a P.R. person & never will be. He has still not grown up & matured, as has not Kyle Busch, & never will. He has never shown respect for public officials & the media & never will. It’s fine to have your own opinion, but you need to learn discretion as to how to show it. He is still a hot head. When being interviewed, it is obvious he hates the media by his derogatory comments to them, like; you saw it, why bother to ask me, & I wouldn’t bother giving him any exposure for promoting his team. He needs to grow up & be a more likable, friendly, outgoing, HAPPY person, not like he hates his job. I can’t imagine him being a top P.R. person at Haas with his bad attitude.
LINDA,,,,
What you say reminds me of the ole saying “id rather be hated for who I am then, loved for who Im not” and thats the way Smoke and Kyle both are, they are worried bout you or anyone they are the way they and they dont put on a faker personality to get fans. Also you want to talk about respect, how bout us as fans we dont respect these people, they cant go anywhere without someone either yelling something at them or asking for autographs, the very second they get done doing there job they have a reporter in there face finding out what us the fans want to know, Im sure you have a job and Im sure youve had bad days, and i personally would not be able to get done working then deal with some punk in my face asking me stupid questions and trying to get my pic, but these guys do it without complaint, and if they blow up everyonce in awhile good shows that they are just like me and you and that they take what they do serious. Linda im not sure if your a mother but if you are im sure there have been days you might have blown up on your kids or said or acted rude toward your kids after a bad day, well your kids are your fans, i say more power to these guys everyone begs to see these guys show more personality for what, so when they do they can get criticized. ITS TOTAL B.S.
Rowdy — gee did I ruffle your feathers,
little bird??? Hey guy how did this story
about Tony get turned into a Kyle Busch
vs Jr conversation???
Tony was doing what Tony does — good for
him!!!!!!!!!!!! Wish the sport had more
good men with as much passion for the sport…..
BJ
you havent ruffled my feathers at all as matter of fact i agree with you bout tony thats the point i have been trying to make the only reason i brought your name was because they have been deleting my comments and howie was complaing about some of my jokes saying they were vulgar and i was simply pointing out your name which i love, to make a point on how he has been singling me out, i dont recall trying to make it bout jr vs stewart or kyle, i just love the way smoke and kyle come out and do what they do and they are who they are and if you dont like the oh well, and i agree with you i to wish this sport had more men like them, real mean who arent scared to say what they want
OK OK OK OK
So i finally saw the video, what i see is smoke knock the headset off (lol) which i loved but ok its wrong, then hes walking away and an official steps up in his path and stood up to smoke so he knew what what was coming you could tell by the way he started leaning before smoke pushed him
