Stewart rips Gilliland for accident at end of Talladega race

Although his finish in Sunday’s Aaron’s 499 was much worse than his second-place a week ago at Phoenix, Stewart stood calmly in the garage at Talladega Superspeedway and described in painstaking detail the wreck that took him out on the next-to-last lap.
David Gilliland, who hit him from behind after the caution was displayed on Lap 191, sent the No. 20 Chevrolet careening into the wall.
“There was no reason for that to happen. So, he is just taking it out on us from (Saturday) when he turned down across the nose (in the Busch race),” Stewart said. He then added: (He) “lucked into his Cup ride.”
“The original accident didn’t bother me near as much as (Gilliland) plowing me in the back after we had already wrecked and we drive a quarter-mile down the race track and I’m going in a straight line,” he said.
“I don’t know how else to describe it. That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen in my life.”
Stewart said he initially thought Jamie McMurray was at fault and after the wreck, he exited his car and walked to the apron of the track and gestured toward McMurray’s car as he passed by.
“It’s frustrating when you work all day and you fight all day to get to the front. You go to the back, then work your way back to the front and then do it again,” Stewart said.

So Stewart “little” has problems on the track, it’s never his fault is what I’m hearing from him this season. What a total Jerk!! Somebody needs to take a baseball bat to his knee caps and give him a real reason to cry. He tries to be superman on the final couple laps and drives to the high side with no drafting help at all and then causes this wreck pinching Jamie and David together. I’m sorry but David couldn’t see what was on the other side of Jamie’s car. David hasn’t been schooled to pull off the track yet when you see the superior driver of them all coming thru. Great move Stewart, you’re such a moron. Your dumb stunt caused a few cars to get tore completely up. You’re such a tool.
It really is refreshing to see that some people really pay attention when it comes to NASCAR. Very well said Hunkerdown, very well said.
Just remember, nothing is ever Tony Stewart’s fault…ever. He is perfect. That’s why he gets so frustrated. Everyone around him is messed up. It must be hard being perfect like Stewart is.

Ya know, there for a while Tony was in the lead but he screwed himself when he went down pit row like a bat out of hell. I know that his fans must be really pissed that NASCAR black flagged him and put him in the back of the pack, serves him right for thinking he is god.
See LOOK AT THAT. I told you all yesterday after he wrecked Kyle Busch. Its all good when he does it. But no, someone hit him and look at that, he’s bitching and complaining about it. He is one of the, if not the, BIGGEST hypocrite in the sport.
I couldn’t agree more Ben… I’m actaully hoping that NASCAR nails him again for his little gesture stunt at the side of the track. It would serve him right.

I just seen a replay of the crash that started the final crash tony shot up the track came down on jamie and started it all just like he did to kyle busch he will kill someone one of theses days he isnt like Dale Sr he knew how to do it with style tony is just plain dangerous
Tony is hands down the biggest baby in NASCAR. I love he said looks like he was mad from the BUSCH race yesterday. It’s like Yeah tony, David hunted you down and tried to wreck you even more so he could destroy his car even more and possibly wreck or hurt other drivers all at 190mph. It’s never Tony’s fault. Don’t get me wrong I hate him with a passion but hes a very talented race car driver he would be even beetr if he didnt cry and win the biggest douchebag of the race award every weekend. i hope to god he retires cause he a complete idiot

What is kinda sad is I think Stewart is probably the best driver out there , but his impatirnce and temper cause him to walk off the track way too many times. And of course when he runs over someone or runs someone up into the wall , he always makes them out to be the bad guy. I like Tony as a driver , I just wish he’d check his temper and be honset once in awhile.
I’m thinking Tony could use some anger management classes and get a hold of him self.. Or some thing.. he definaly seams to have a problem he need to loose his attitude and stay off track till he does.. but who knows he might get suspended soon enough. (with his atitude and his trap). and won’t have to watch him on track any more.. since he is all ready on probation..

Actually i defended his actions untill yesterdays little episode.. after seeing that heck with it.. i think Tony wants the attetion and why he is doing it.. humm wonder if he is trying to get out of his contract? with out actually having to quit..

Hey Mike , where were you at when Toney was crashing Kyle Bush in the saturday race? Would it have been ok for Kyle to get on tv and belittle Toneys driving ability? No. (attitude maybe) All I’m saying is you can get wrecked and cuss the guy that wrecked you , but you dont always have to try a belittle them in front on the camera. I said the same thing when Robby Gordon called Mikey a piece of sh*t. Same goes for all drivers.
he did not have to say any thing actions speak louder then words.. ie when he got out of his car. (i did not see any other drivers do what he did after wrecking). but then that was a horrlble waste of a race period! he brought it all on himself.. never though he had a bad personality till now.. ever think we are tired of his actions now.. and don’t want to see then any more. I do wish he would of stayed quiet. but then i guess what is a race with out some dramma… boring i guess.. just like the whole ending of this one..
tony is not a talented driver, he’s the biggest dusch bag to ever enter nascar. he threw a tempertantrum when he finished 2 nd to my driver jeff gordon here in phoenix. he’s such a loser and i can’t see why people cheer on such a baby. i’m proud of gilliland for what he did. like i’ve said on other debates, “tony there’s no wam-bulance at the track”.
I think all of you are wrong when it comes to the point of Tony starting the wreck. It was David’s fault for moving up the track and cutting off Jamie when Jamie had a run. David should have let them go but he screwed himself as well as Jamie (who had a great day) and Tony. BUT….I do agree with you when it comes to Tony crying about David hitting him again and sending him towards the inside wall. It’s kinda hard to swerve around a car that is coming down the track in front of you (like Tony was doing). I disagree with his comments that David did it on purpose after Saturdays Busch race. I was at the Kentucky race when David won last year and he drove the hell out of his UNSPONSORED car. David is a young guy learning. David is not that kind of guy.
Wow Sean you just prove you know nothing about Tony Stewart. If he was so untalented he wouldn’t have two Cup championships, 2 IRL championships, 1 IROC championship, and multiple cart and midget championships. Stewart became the first driver to win USAC’s version of the Triple Crown, earning championships in all three of USAC’s major divisions, National Midget, Sprint, and Silver Crown in a single year.

As far as the wreck goes…. Jamie was pushed up the track by some no named driver who is JUST LEARNING how Nascar works. Tony is on probation for NOT talking and everyone had something to say about that. Now that he is talking and no one likes what he has to say then you have something to say about that!?! I don’t understand!?! And if you don’t believe the wreck happened like I said, you can go to nascar.com and replay it OVER AND OVER until you see it!!!!!

He was wrecked way after the caution came out thats when he hit the wall…..then he got the car staright again and rode for like 5 seconds and then gets nailed by gilliland way way after the caution came out. Gilliland needs to understand that when a caution comes out you slow down, not slam someone out of the way because he’s in front of you. Tony needs to go back open wheeling he isnt man enough to drive with the big boys. His young driver partner Denny needs to teach him a few things about patience and maturity. Smoke needs to cool off for a season and not get paid and he might realize that every thing cant be someoneelse’s fault all the time. I think Nascar needs to put him on suspension for the rest of the year.

You know it is pretty funny that all of you watch and what to hear what he has to say if you don’t like him turn him off thats what I do when Jeff Gordon gets on and starts his whining. You get mad when Smoke doesn’t talk and now you get mad cause he does. He is a talented driver who has ran into some bad luck lately just like all the other drivers do. If you were out there driving 200 miles an hour with the turbulance that they incounter I bet you would change your tune a little. He isn’t the only racer who has an attitude or gets angry, but he is the only one who gets ripped for it. Ok me then please!!! explaine why if the race was supose to be over if a caution was called.. That caution happend before Tony wreck. So should he not have had his postion held? Since the race was over? That is Why i am confused on it? few other people i know as well too..
They stated that during that “over drive” if one happened what ever order the drivers were in was how the race was going to be called, won (you know what i mean i hope)

And as far as his ‘tude…. there have been other drivers who (AS I recall last year) got out of their car and tried to throw a HANS device at another driver!!! Tony Stewart is NOT the only driver to ever lose his temper. He’s just the one doing it today. Do you not think that Tony has made enough money this year alone to take the rest of it off? Smoke Fan…the field is frozen when a wreck happens ,but they ran behind the pace car for the last lap and 1/2 and the cars not still running due to the wreck were lapped under caution and moved down “eventhough the field was frozen”. You have to finish the race in the order you are in. Now if Tonys car was still drivable and he could have caught back up to the field and got back into his position , then he would have finished there. But then he wouldnt have gotten to yell at jamie McMurray for no reason on the track , who was still driving in his position , and thats why jamie got to finish where he did. because he was still keeping his position under caution.

Letting Jimmie Johnsons crew chief still be a crew chief in NASCAR after being busted SEVEN times for cheating, not fining Kyle Busch for leaving at Texas without interviews, how is that any diffrent then when Tony left? Because Hendrick said it was a communication problem? What a double standard.

I think James REALLY needs to watch the video again and see that Stewart wasn’t going straight. I don’t see how Tony is going straight when his car was on the wall and then moving towards the bottom of the track. I saw the video a few times and I don’t see a direction of straight anywhere. Yeah he’s going straight in a direction of the track but his car OBVIOUSLY is going down the track in the MIDDLE!!! And if David is such a “bad” driver, then why after a half season and these first 9 races would he not follow a rule on slowing down when caution comes out? He was in the Busch Series alll of last year and some of Nextel. So I believe by now he would know that rule.

mike, why would i want to know anything about tony, he plain out sucks as a driver. like i said jeff gordon is my driver who has more CHAMPIONSHIPS 4 by the way, more wims in nascar than tony, more wins in any other series of racing than tony has.
