Stewart plans to stay with JGR for rest of his career

Tony Stewart, who earlier this year was so frustrated that he sarcastically talked about quitting, is anxious to sign an extension with Joe Gibbs Racing that will take him through the remainder of his Nextel Cup career.
“I’m not looking to retire anytime soon,” Stewart said during a Wednesday press conference to announce JGR’s move from Chevrolet to Toyota. “If I was doing that I wouldn’t look at re-signing a new contract.”
The two-time Cup champion signed an extension in 2003 that will keep him at JGR through 2009. He is looking at a new extension of at least three years.
“It could be five years it could be 20,” team president J.D. Gibbs said. “I told him and [crew chief Greg] Zipadelli it can be for as long as they want. I have a feeling when one is done they’re both done.”
Stewart, second in Nextel Cup points chase heading into Saturday night’s race at Richmond International Raceway, said he’ll race until it’s not fun anymore.
“It’s about wanting to win races,” he said. “I’ve been racing since I was 8 years old. The day it’s not fun I’ll quit.”

That’s our Tony!
Wonder if they’ll just do a lifetime deal with him like HMS did with Gordon? Despite a few headaches when Tony gets cranky and causes trouble, they have a great thing going! I could have told you the talk about him leaving JGR or NASCAR altogether was a bunch of bull.
Tony and JGR just ‘GO’, if you get what I mean…it’s like.. peanut butter without the jelly…doesn’t work, lol
good job tony..when you’re happy, i’m happy
I like peanut butter without jelly :(.. but anyways I’m so glad to hear this.. I have been a Stewart fan sense I got into NASCAR. Thank god he’s not quitting anytime soon.
If Tony can weather the Storm of the Century with all the controversy by switching to Toyota, then I think he can handle just about anything. This will definitely prove that Tony can win in anything. This won’t set Chevrolet back any, but I can’t imagine that losing one of their most high profile and double NASCAR champion sits too well.
he is going to just get fatter!
He’s losing weight.. not gaining just so you know.
tony shared at the brickyard that he wasn’t going to drive a toyota, especially since his sprint cars are now powered by chevy!!
i wonder how many fans he’ll lose thourgh this!!!
Amanda. I thought you were going to kill yourself if
Tony went to Toyota?
I remember that. Still have those feelings toward
this matter? hahaha.
Toyota will step up big time in ‘08 now.
Figurative speech. LOL… I died inside. XD
And any fans of his who won’t follow him arn’t really fans. You’d respect his decision and the fact that he WANTS to get into a Toyota next year and support him 110%. I HATE Toyota. But I am and always will be Tony’s loyal fan.
Screw off and go support someone like Gordo-n’t if you can’t accept the switch.
Grrr!!
Toyota is buying their way into NASCAR like they have in all the other series …Mikey bought Dale Jarrett … He couldn’t make a race on speed ,MikeyGot caught cheating at Daytona and now is making fun of himself on NAPA commericals…. So now they buy Joe Gibbs Racing and Tony Stewart . Joe Hires the Pee Wee Herman look alike driver that Tony gets along with so well .. Some people will do anything for money…. even drive a Toyota and have Pee Wee herman for a Teammate………..
Hey cheater,,,do all the drivers that drive chevy drive for free or something, and they just havent made it public. You must be one of those people who turn down pay raises.
Bob. Why go from a Hero to a zero…….
GO Tony Keep on Racin !!!!!
If JGR can get the HP and reliability from the Cup version Toyota engine , then they will win races. They will have 3 of the most talented drivers , 2 are outta control on the track and I say that as a compliment. So , with some improvement in the motor area they will still win races. I notice that when Vickers and Blaney get going thier Toyotas are fairly competitive and they are nothing compared to Gibbs , so maybe 08 will be ok and 09 will be a turning point. Lets just hope Toyota doesnt buy out half the other teams or something.
This is just the kind of slap in the face Chevy needed to get then to dump more money into the sport. If any one thinks Chevy is going to take this lying down your crazy, they will now do what ever it takes to make sure that they out run JGR and the rest of the Toyota cars week in and week out. This isn’t f1, cart, IRL, or the grand am series this is nascar and Chevy has been a leader for years. There not gonna roll over just cause Toyota Buys JGR there gonna get p#ss%d and get even stronger.
hey cheater! that made me laugh my b*lls off omg! pee wee for a team mate! i am going to use that for life when i talk about him! i have to call a friend! thats way too funny!
