Stewart not impressed with Johnson pinching him into the wall
Quote selected text Published March 18th, 2007 in NASCAR News
Tony Stewart didn’t hide his frustration with Jimmie Johnson and his assertion that Johnson pinched him into the wall at Atlanta with just a few laps to go, giving Johnson the win.
“Nobody ever likes to hit the wall. That’s pretty much a no-brainer. I wish he’d have given me a little more room. I don’t think I ever pinched him or kept him from having room on the race track to race. He had a faster car. He’s probably going to get around us anyway but I’d like to have seen him give me room to race him for it.”
“To be honest whatever I say is probably going to be wrong. We’re both racing hard with three laps to go. You don’t know if his spotter told him he was clear so he just kept coming. You don’t know what the circumstances are with that without talking to him. It is what it is. At the end he’s in Victory Lane and we’re here talking about finishing second.”

It’s not about who comes in 2nd now is it. It’s ok when HE drives like that and “pinches” people into the wall or whatever, but katie-bar-the-door if someone does it to him.
Well if you watched the race you saw the gesture that Tony gave Jimmie that let you know how he felt. I don’t think this is as much about pinching Tony into the wall as it is frustration. I think some of the drivers are starting to get frustrated with how much the 48 team wins. It doesn’t seem like they have to try that hard to win a race, and if they just show up to the race it’s a guaranteed top 5. I think they are wondering what exactly that team is doing, or what help they are getting. I think if anybody should be frustrated it should probably be Jeff Gordon. It seems like week after week the 48 car is leaps and bounds better than the 24. Anybody else notice since Jimmie came to Cup Jeff has been in a downward spiral in his career? It wasn’t that long ago it was a given Jeff would match or beat Earnhardt’s 7 championships, now we wonder if he’ll even make the chase. I have always found that a little odd. Jimmie has a bullseye on his back and everything he does out there is going to be scrutinized because of his success. By the way, I am not a Jimmie fan, not even close.
It’s Neckcar, real racing rules DO NOT APPLY!
Lol… I don’t like either of them but way to go Jimmie!!
Jimmie is the freaking tightest driver ever.
and in response to that Jeff Gordon comment up there, 24+24= 48
JOHNSON IS TWICE AS GOOD AS JEFF
AHAHAHAH
Tony put his nose were it should not have been, Jimmy had the line Tony should of let him in and try to pass him on the out side.
Well I’m not a Jimmie fan, but I didn’t think Jimmie put Tony into the wall.
This is just another case of Tony crying like a 3rd grader. “Mommy, Jimmie out
smarted me again, and won,…Boo,Hoo” Grow up Tony, if you know how to drive
a race car, then you’d know you could prevent going into the wall. All you
have to do is push that pedal in the middle called a brake,…moron! I think Tony’s just mad cause Jimmie out smarted him with using some racing
skills, which Tony didn’t seem to have on this day.
Anyone ever notice that it dont matter
WHO the driver is that out drives him, if Stewart doesn’t
win, he whines!!
Now if he could just bottle that whine—-what a great sponsor!!
Stewart snivvles would not only sponsor his car but also
sponsor his wallet the rest of the profit!
Tony ALMOST has some of my respect as a driver, but
i cant’ stand a whiner! Can that be because I’m a mama or
because I’m also a Nanny (caretaker for other family’s kids now)
Matters not, if Phony Tony dont aint happy he’s gonna cry!
Too bad there’s one obvious thing he DIDN”T learn in Kindergarted and
that would be crying gets you no where.
Replays of Johnston’s pass on Stewart clearly showed it was clean and that
no signs of putting Phony into the wall. If he’s won 2 championships
now and can’t keep his car out of the wall oh well!! He’s gonna cry anyway
it dont matter who wins —he sometimes even whines about race moments
when he wins!!
my comment to Phony—-
waaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh
waaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh
waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh
they’re making fun of me AGAIN mommy!!
oopps….typo!!
“Matters not, if Phony Tony dont aint happy he’s gonna cry!”
was supposed to read, “Matters not, if Phony Tony don’t win, he
aint happy and he’s gonna cry”
Ok, jeers apart for a moment. I like much of what Brian
said! I also believe that Phony’s gesture was really
both unsportsman like and not the best thing on a family
track (which racefans may or may not agree that all are
family oriented places) Our youth look up to sports figures and
once again, Phony had to be the bad example of a grown man.
If he even knows how one with integrity acts!

I also have to comment that Earnhardt Jr aint had much to brag about
when each new season starts.Sure he had the Daytona win 3 years ago but
this year he’s already had engine trouble resulting in 2 dnf’s. But
you don’t see jr whining about it, he states the facts as they are,
keeps his head up high and blames nobody for anything. He’s surely
not having the greatest early season statistics but he keeps on
racing.
We’ve got just a few races in for the 07 season and aint it funny.
Phony Tony got a fresh supply of whine in stock too…suppose his
team keeps it on hand like fresh tires? LOL
Mare my friend…they were talking about Dale Sr. He won 7 championships not Dale Jr.. They meant that Jeff Gordon used to be on-track to do just as good if not better than Dale earnhardt Sr. But somewhere in the mix he has lost his zing. It has nothing to do with Jimmie Johnson’s winning record because hello…Jeff owns Jimmie’s car. Sadly Jeff hasn’t done very well since Ray Evernham left and that just isn’t right. Dale Sr. left a legacy that will be broken sooner or later but who knows by whom. It could still be Jeff, or maybe Jimmie, or maybe Tony…or maybe even his son Dale Jr.As for Tony…well he knows that Jimmie had a better car and he had his feelings hurt by Jimmie flat out beating his ass…so of course he is going to whine alittle. Jimmie did what Jimmie does best…he took it away without touching that car. He didn’t cause Tony to hit the wall because he didn’t even touch that car. Tony just didn’t want to give it up as easy as it was going to be taken and he pushed it in too far. Plain and simple. By the way I am somewhat of a Jimmie Johnson fan, but I am fully a Dale Jr. fan!
yes, dear, i was aware of that but at 4 am I just didnt make my
statement clear enough, it was in response to Brian saying that
Gordon aint faired so well since Johnston’s arrival at the track.
It seems true as well that since Johnston’s arrival at cup,
Jr hasn’t faired as well either. but even still, he isn’t
whining like Phony Tony or even like Gordon.
I have many drivers who I consider myself as their fan,
but mostly I love the sport itself as much!
i don’t know how these are time stamped
but MY time right now is about noon
and the time stamp here has me like 3 or more
hours behind…so it was later than marked on my comments
from lastnight!
I am a big tony stewart fan. Yes, i do agree that tony needs to just deal with it the way i did when he didnt win last sunday..i was pissed off, but i kept my anger to myself. It’s one week he didnt win..not like he’s not going to win most of the upcoming races anyways
it IS frustration. you’ve had one of the fastest cars al day and then when your closing in for the win, you are pushed aside by a driver who always does the same thing over and over..seriously, 48 keeps winning.. wtf? something is rigged.
tony is a great driver..and when he has something to say, he DOES speak up. sometimes its for the better..while sometimes he should keep his anger to himself.
still..
go tony
TO AMANDA:
Rigged?? nascar is rigged?? ok, so we have what 43 racecars and how many
teams each week agree to throw the race and let Johnston win?
let’s get serious!!
The only thing “RIGGED” is Stewart’s quick temper!
honestly i see all of this driver bashing but i would like to see some of you idiots go out there and be told by your boss to win and then get pushed up the track and lose and not be even the slightest bit upset because you didnt do what your boss told you to do. before you go driver bashing, think about how you would react honestly if you were in their shoes.
…like ok, it was a WEEK AGO!!
get over it—that’s racing!
I know that you go out to win every race however I would not cry over 2nd place. If you finish top 3 or 5 all year long there is a good chance that you are leading in the points for the championship. I would rather finish with a championship title than win 3 or 5 race through out the year.
I am a huge Jeff and Jimmy fan and I listen about how they cry when something happens that don’t go there way, but that thats part of the hole thing. There are a lot of other drivers that complain also but they are not interviewed so you don’t hear about there complaints.
I think that if you have never stepped foot in a race car under full green flag racing or have been a hired driver than you really don’t know the real presure behind the wheel.
Who really ever tells his or her favorite drive to quit winning because they took a 2nd place finish. No one does because they are to busy pointing out excuses why there driver did not win.
Rubbing is Racing
You guys have no idea about racing do u? u just watch? weel stop talking shit about Stewart he is by far the best driver in nascar… you guys no nothing and if u were in tonys seat ud be pissed too
Ok Brandon! You are a huge Tony fan, and I like him but he is not my # 1 or 2 driver. I do not just watch. I have been a driver and a sponsor so I have been on both sides of it all. I have been pinched up to the wall while taking the lead and yes it sucks b/c you have to make a very important decision. Do I let off the gas and try again the next lap or do i stay in it and take the chance on tearing up my car. At the time I had few sponsors, so I let off and tried the pass again. When the race was over I finished 2nd. I was up set with myself because I probably could have set him up a different way and went under or on the out side for the pass. I did not bitch to anyone for not winning the race. I loaded up my car with no damage and was offered a cold beer from my sponsors. When you don’t win but have a top 3 finish or even top 5 or 10 in the Cup series that is nothing to hang your head about.
Mare..
Hendricks motorsports should be investigated. There is deffinatly something going on there. i dont know who their manager has to f**k to get his drivers to win every week, but there IS something rigged with the hendricks team.
And I AM being serious. I’m OBVIOUSLY NOT the only who who thinks that hendricks motorsports is up to something. How do they come back from being a lap or two down to winning the race? How do they happen to have a “lucky-chance” caution come out RIGHT when they need it? How do they make it to the front ONLY during the last 30 laps and win after having a bad handling car or car problems?
If you figure it out, the rest of us would like to know!!
but for all the teams in NASCAR they are not
going to sit by and let this happen—
so if your concerns are valid, the other 40 some cars/owners
will get to the bottom of it.
This was a MONTH ago—that’s racin dude, get over it!
I don’t think Hindricks race teams are cheaters at all. They really work well with one another. That is driver,
crew members, and owners. These guys have been with each other for a majority of the time.
They do not have a new crew chief evry other month. If they had something rigged than I am sure atleast one
of thier drivers that were let
go whould have spilled there guts by now.
If a drivers car does not handle to it’s potential the crew will make minor changes to make the car turn better lap
times. There are alot of things to consider ie. tire presures will most likly be different in each tire, spring rates,
wedge and many others things that could make a car handle better.
There are several ways that a car can get back on the lead lap if they one are lucky and two make no errors on
their pit stops, and under cautions stay out to gain track position and hope another caution comes out shortly after.
These are just a few ways.
I love how everybody gets all pissed off on this forum.
Great Win Jeff
Roy made some great points….now can we let it go this was WEEKS ago!
