Stewart not happy with Gilliland after happy hour tangle
Quote selected text Published June 17th, 2007 in NASCAR News
Tony Stewart is not happy with Yates driver David Gilliland after an incident that occurred in yesterday’s happy hour practice session for today’s Michigan Nextel Cup race.
The two tangled when Gilliland was pitting after a long run with worn tires just as Stewart was entering the track with fresh tires.
“He checks up at the end of the straightaway, and we run into him,” a frustrated Stewart said. “It’s really, really easy to see it. They’ve got two different cameras views of it, and he never stuck his hand out of the window [to signal he was going into the pits]. It really screwed up a really good racecar for [Sunday]. It didn’t need to happen. It shouldn’t happen.”

Imagine that, Tony pissed again,LOLOLOL.
Ah come on Tony, now you ARE sounding whiny. Normally I stand up for
the guy cuz everyone’s entitled to their opinions, but I mean c’mon,
s__t happens. Course, he’s quoted more when he’s angry than other
drivers sometimes so it seems like he talks a lot more trash than the
rest of the drivers.
ok i think tony was in the wrong and that he rear ended gilllaland so he is wrong cry baby
i know, wahhhhhhhh he is whiney more than gordon these days.. just when you think he might be ok, he starts it up again..
carl got spun out winning in the busch race last night by steve wallace.. but you didnt hear him whine, he just said things that he could have done to have prevented the wreck on his end…. get over it tony.
i wish just one time tony would shut the hell up and let it go it was just a raicng incident sure it was practice but still that kind of stuff happens
wah wah wah wah.
>.
you guys all have your head stuck to far up you @$$e$. Tony is right, gililand, doesn’t win, doesn’t finish in the top 5, nor the top 10 luckly the top half of the field. and then he goes out and wrecks championship winning race cars. all you guys need to quit your B!%(h!N.
The constant DRAMA of Nascar…….
Nicholas, so what youre saying is there should be preferential treatment for some and not for others just because someone isnt as good????? You must be a Gordon fan!!LOLOL
Nicholas,
tony races soo dirty that he’s wreck more cars than gilliland will in his whole nascar career. so stop acting like tony is perfect because he is 1 of three dirtiest drivers in the track with the busch brothers. so sit with tony, hold each other tight, and cry together about the wreck. it’s racing even under practice.
Seems like their are some whinies who needs to stop complaining about Tony.
It’s not Tony’s fought that Gilliand can’t drive a racecar!
Poor little Tony…Boo, Hoo go run to daddy Gibbs and he’ll wipe your tears away.
Toni, gee what a coincidence. So, is it always NOT TONYS fault then?? What about all the other times he whines about things. WAIT, let me guess, its everyone elses fault. LOLOL!!
Stewart should go back to open wheel where the slightest contact will end your day…let’s see how shitty he does then! lol
Gilliland sucks at racing.. he was even scared to talk to tony about it… cause he knows he can’t drive… stewart doesn’t whine he speaks his mind that mostly all the other drivers are afraid to do.. example: dale jr.
Oh waa! Someone please give that little B**Ch Tony a diaper and bottle and a blankey he can suck on! He whines worse than a chick with a skinned knee! Maybe Jared from Subway could ru Tony’s pu**y and make everything a bit better for the whiney wittle girl!!!How many times has tony put Gordon or even Jr. in the wall on purpose! Tony wrecks more people than even Dale Sr. Then tony will go and punch reporters in the face for trying to interview him. Not too mention fans and other drivers. Tony should not be in Nascar
well watch last years races. Stewart puit jr. in the fence. If I could remember what race it was I could tell ya. he not only punched the reporter, he also punched
another driver while he was sitting in his car. I wanaa say it was Vickers but don’t remember.
Sounds like someone needs to get their facts straight before spitting random mindless BS. Yes, I mean you nascarfan4life24. If your going to ATTEMPT to talk about something know what your talking about before making yourself look like a bigger fool then you already are.
ewww, mike, you are an angry boy…did u reread your comment….speaking of being a big fool!!
I regret nothing. Theres a lot of people who just talk random non-sense without knowing any facts what so ever hence my statement.
I regret nothing. Theres a lot of people who just talk random non-sense without knowing any facts what so ever hence my statement. Plus I would rather be a fool with facts then a fool that goes of allegations and rumors.
“He whines worse than a chick with a skinned knee!”
…You seem to have sexist tendencies. Did you get your a__ kicked
by a girl when you were little or something? God. It’s so ignorant.
Anyway. Like I said, normally I don’t consider what Tony says as
whining;; I like that he speaks his mind. But this was just a racing
incident. Whether Gilliland can drive or not, this is a “s__t happens”
kind of thing. My dad brought up a good point when I told him though:
Wonder if his migraines are getting to him again? Not trying to make
excuses, but he generally seems to get crankier when they’re acting
up.
so I was wrong. 1 incident happened in 2004. Heres 1 story. So now who’s the fool?
Stewart Penalty Draws Ire, Support

I think the penalty handed down to Tony Stewart for his altercation with gentleman Brian Vickers, who is a classy and mature kid, was absolutely too petty. I have heard that NASCAR’s affiliation with Home Depot is what keeps NASCAR from penalizing him for all the antics he has pulled on and off the track. Hopefully, team owner Joe Gibbs, who is also a classy person, will step in and give Tony some punishment that will wake him up, or better yet, turn him loose.
It would be nice if Home Depot realized that Lowe’s has it all over them with a wonderful representative and spokesman with Jimmie Johnson, who is another classy guy.
A fine and loss of 25 points isn’t going to do it for Tony. NASCAR might just as well have slapped him on the hand and said, “No, no.” And probation is a joke.

With all the history Tony Stewart has of improper behavior, how can NASCAR give him another slap on the wrist? He has been penalized and put on probation before with no sign of behavior improvement. He’s is currently laughing himself silly at this meaningless penalty. If $50,000 meant nothing to him a few years ago, it means even less now.
NASCAR is dropping the ball constantly this season, but this has to be the biggest joke so far. Stewart should have been suspended for multiple weeks. Hasn’t the previous rule of thumb always been that the second offender’s penalty is worse than the first offender? Jimmy Spencer sat out a race for the same basic infraction. If I were him and his car owner, I would consider this a case of, “Who cares about you? Your sponsor is not the official anything of NASCAR?”

This letter might not sound like it, but I’m a Tony Stewart fan. I don’t wear blinders and am very aware he’s never going to win the award as the “cleanest driver of the year.” I have also watched Darrell Waltrip and some of his associates single Tony out as someone to put under a microscope and point out every little potentially bad thing Tony does, while pretty much ignoring the other 42 drivers on the track.
But this time Tony didn’t need Darrell to blow his actions out of proportion. Tony did a pretty good job of that all by himself - again.
I hope, though, that Home Depot doesn’t get blamed for NASCAR’s lack of backbone in dealing with Tony.

Why, NASCAR, why? Let’s make some rules fair here. How about one standard, and we stick to it.
I was disappointed to see that NASCAR didn’t suspend Tony Stewart. I guess when you are a Cup champion you get all that special treatment, such as unlimited free warnings. I bet Kevin Harvick wishes he was a champion because NASCAR seems to only keep in mind what the non-champions have done in the past. Jimmy Spencer grabbed Kurt Busch in his car, and they had an altercation, but since Mr. Spencer was just a driver and not a champion, they went ahead and suspended him.
But, Tony, it’s OK. You won the championship so we will go ahead and just push this one under the rug like all the rest.

NASCAR does play favorites. Last year Jimmy Spencer hit Kurt Busch and the result was a one-race suspension. This year, Tony Stewart punches Brian Vickers while strapped in his car and the result was a loss of 25 points and a fine that probably could have been paid with the pocket money Tony was running around with this past weekend.
This is another example of why people cry and complain each weekend that NASCAR changes the rules each and every race. This shows that favorites are played.
Jimmy, a non-factor in the points race loses a potential 100-plus points last year. Bad boy Tony, who has a history of idiotic antics, loses only 25 points. NASCAR, you were wrong this time, very wrong.

Why did NASCAR give Tony Stewart a fine and put him on probation - again? Do they not realize that $50,000 is just chump change to him? And probation is evidently not working. He’s been through all this before.
Tony Stewart needs to be actually punished. A suspension would fit all his crimes. He has been shoving everyone around on the track, and now he’s shoving them around off the track.
Kevin Harvick got suspended for “aggressive driving.” Tony Stewart has been driving aggressively, and now he’s punching people.
Come on, NASCAR. Wake up and stop favoring one driver over another. The act is getting really old.
Chris Schurz

So NASCAR has once again let Tony Stewart off easy. It would seem that some drivers can just do what they want as long as they have a deep wallet. A $50,000 fine for Stewart would be like a $50 fine to regular folks.
Why NASCAR continues to let this hot head act in any way he sees fit I will never understand. Apparently probation and fines have not worked in the past.
I just hope that one day Stewart grabs a hold of Jimmy Spencer. At least Jimmy would know what to do with him.
NASCAR could have made a strong stand and parked that bright orange car of Stewart for four weeks and banned Stewart from the track. It sure wouldn’t hurt Tony Stewart to sit at home and watch on television how real gentlemen act in this sport.

I do not understand why this is so difficult for people to understand. Under no circumstances is it acceptable to physically assault another person. Period. Paragraph. End of story.

Tony Stewart means too much to NASCAR, and they know it. People need to stop crying about him all the time. If Dale Earnhardt did the same things today, people would cheer and say what I’m saying about Stewart.
Stewart is what a driver should be, and he’s a class act, too.
By the way, for all you who are going to Lowe’s because of Stewart, I’ll quote Darrell Waltrip by saying this guy will continue to “Boogity, Boogity, Boogity” to Home Depot for all of his supplies. Go, Tony.

I watched “Trackside” from Daytona and got tired of hearing about the punishment dealt to Tony Stewart. Darrell Waltrip kept it going and even tried to get other drivers involved. I didn’t think he had an agenda against Tony, but now I wonder. Maybe he and Tony should go to the woodshed and work it out once and for all. Then we wouldn’t have to listen to it anymore. D.W., give it up.

Okay first of all, why on earth would you post something that long
as a comment?
Secondly, you’re still a fool. You copy and paste an article by
someone who calls Jimmie Johnson, a man who caused the big one at
Talladega at both races of the same year, one of which involved a
car flipping over if I remember correctly, a classy gentleman. And
we’re supposed to consider him intelligent enough to form intelligent
opinions and thus change our opinion based on his. Which is exactly
what that is. An OPINION column, not fact.
And you, of all people, really REALLY can’t talk about improper
penalties. How many times has Jeff Gordon gotten a slap on the wrist?
Nor can you talk about whiney drivers. I mean look at the number in
your name on here. Pretty hypocritical.
Thank you Breanna, although alot of times we dont see eye to eye at least we know the difference between FACT and OPINION.
PS I am not dragging you into this, its just nice to see the world isnt completely stupid.
you are all blind! Tony has an attitude problem and there is no place for it in nascar!
I just actually snorted with laughter. Yeah, Tony’s got some anger
in him. And he says stuff like this with Gilliland sometimes, and also
speaks his mind on stuff that matters. If there’s no place for anger
and whining in racing, Gordon’s gotta go too. Who shoved Kenseth?
And who once threw a hissy fit cuz his own teammate didn’t move over
and let him win?
…Yeah, thought so.
Yea but who put Gordon in the wall with 2 laps left of the race? When did Gordon whine about Jimmy not moving over. He told the reporters that Jimmy did exactly what he was suppose to do. Team mate or not, you fight for that win. But like Jeff said, he could have wrecked jimmy to win but he doesn’t do that. But if it had been Stewart that jimmy was blocking, Jimmy would have been in the wall. Just ask Stewart’s best friend Jr. about putting him in the wall for position!
What about Stewart spinning jeff on pit road? Yea thats right.
Who cares if Matt put him in the wall? According to your logic, he
still shouldn’t of pushed him. If Gordon has a right to throw a hissy
fit, so does Stewart.
Like I said in my first post, all the drivers talk trash. Tony’s just
viewed as the worst hothead, therefore he gets quoted more. This one
is juuust a mite bit whiny, but usually he’s just voicing his opinion
and there’s nothing wrong with that.
I didn’t say it was ok. As a gordon fan I was upset that jeff pushed matt. He acted just like Stewart. But at least Jeff had the balls to go up and admit he was wrong and apoligize to matt for his antics. But with Stewart it never changes. !st it’s a reporter. Then it’s brian vickers and some fans. Who’s next? The guy needs to be in boxing and not in a 3000 pound lethal weapon.
Sept. 6, 2002 Reports surface that Stewart is under investigation by Tennessee authorities for allegedly shoving a fan after the Sharpie 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway in August.
Sept. 7, 2002 Stewart and Gibbs both deny the fan’s claim that Stewart shoved her after the Sharpie 500.
Sept. 14, 2002 An emergency medical technician claims that Stewart punched him after crashing out of the New England 300 in July.
Sept. 15, 2002 NASCAR officials say they found no conclusive evidence to support an emergency medical technician’s claim that Stewart punched him after the New England 300 in July.
Sept. 24, 2002 A Tennessee grand jury declines to indict Stewart on charges stemming from a fan’s accusation that Stewart shoved her after the Sharpie 500 at Bristol in August.
Now you can throw out the theory that he had any incidents with fans/other people other then the reporter.
that just goes to show that when you have money you get away with shit. Look at O.J. and Micheal Jackson. Bet you think they’re both inocent too, huh?
Yeah lets avoid facts here and go on wild assumptions. And I guess your right, Tony and Joe learned from the best in the business on paying people off to cheat. They must of sat in on one of Ricks seminars right?
Rick’s Seminars? Yea that funny. Rick doesn’t put up with cheating. He came down ofon Knause for cheating last year. Rick told him he does it again he’s outta there. So what do you mean rick cheats. When did Rick ever lose 100 owner points for cheating? Rick didn’t put up with cheating when evernham was Gordon’s crew chief and he doesn’t put up with cheating now.
You’re right, Hendrick doesn’t lose a lot of points for cheating and
stuff. Course there’s all those times when they’ve blatantly cheated
and not been penalized. Which, if they wanna play that way, that’s fine.
But, they shouldn’t not penalize Gordon for running an illegal part
during a race and winning with it and then penalize Jr for accidentally
mounting the wrong rear wing clips and not even running them in the
race.
When did Gordon run an illegal part and not get penalized for it? If your talking bout the daytona 500 and his broken shock mount. Well he lost his pole position for that one. And how do you accidently mount the wrong wing on your car. Thats like me tryin to put ford wheels on my Silverado. they don’t fit. it doesn’t happen! Typical Jr. fan.
Yeah Rick really stuck to his guns on Knaus considering Chad has been busted 7 TIMES cheating. And Evernham was the biggest cheat of anyone. Read the book “Cheating” by Tom Jensen if you think Jeff doesnt cheat.
Actually it’s because they tested several types of rear wing clips
in the off-season for Nascar and accidentally put on the wrong ones.
I mean why intentionally cheat on that, it’s not going to help the
car at all.
actually they did say it would help the car quite a bit. It was still intentional. You can deny it all you want. Thats why Jr. didn’t appeal the fine. they all new they were wrong.
I was wrong not 7 times but 6.
Chad’s cheating record:
July 11, 2002: Fined $25,000 for having improperly installed mounting bolts. The team also was docked 25 championship points and 25 owner points.
May 21, 2003: Fined $1,000 for using an unapproved air-directional device during NASCAR’s All-Star race.
May 27, 2003: Fined $2,500 for using an unapproved refrigerant.
March 15, 2005: Suspended two races and fined $35,000 because Johnson’s race-winning car failed to meet the minimum height requirement during post-race inspection at Las Vegas. The team also was docked 25 championship points, which knocked Johnson out of the points lead.
Sept. 30, 2005: NASCAR changes a rule regarding shock absorbers after Knaus exploited a loophole that caused Johnson’s car to fail post-race inspection at Dover International Speedway.
Feb. 13, 2006: Suspended from the Daytona 500 for raising the rear window on Johnson’s car to alter the aerodynamics during the team’s qualifying run.
Damn guess Chad is a cheater. well then rick needs to get rid of him! Sorry I was wrong.
wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
wonder what happens if he breaks a nail!!
it’s NEVER Stewart’s fault you know!!
It never is! I think Stewart could kill someone on the track and it would be ok with his fans! But hey what do you do? I really hope Stewart does retire after his contract is up in 2 years. The track will be a much better place without him.
Overheard on Gilligan’s radio after contact with Stewart: SKIPPER!!!!
Breanna
Just so you know these guys get paid alot of money they all find ways to get around the rules, if you think anything a crew cheif does is on accident you are sadly mistaken.
As for Tony Stewart I am a fan of his but I am close to packing all my Tony Stewart stuff and sending it to his race shop, he has turned into a— well lets say NASCAR does have a successful female in the races know.
actually jr decided not to appeal the penalty because if he had lost, nascar could have come down harder, lile sitting him out races or putting him out of the top 35.
Go ahead and pack up your Tony stuff Killer68 and send it to his shop. You might just be a disposable fan anyways. Same theory as Jr. fans not being fans because he went to Hendrick.
He is such a cry baby. Waah! Get over it.
Tony just needs to go cry on Jared of subways shoulder maybe he’ll wipe his tears away among other things!
In all this debating above I didn’t see anyone defend Gilliland as a driver. So, anyone calling Tony a whiner possibly proved him to be in the right by omission. Even if you say Tony was in the wrong in this particular situtation.
Whiner or not, Tony is right about Gilliland. He “lucked” into his ride. If anyone says Gilliland has talent they better have an M&M’s shirt to back it up (one without Schrader or Sadler’s face on it).
I agree with Axel Gilliland did luck into his ride. Why because he won ONE Busch race? Why does this then prove he is able to race in Nextel cup? If so I hope to see Stephan Leicht in a cup car this week.
hey nascarfan4life24! you have to be the bigest drama queen on this page. you sound just like jeffy! get some tp and blow your nose!
