Stewart injured in hard crash in Las Vegas

Two-time NASCAR champion Tony Stewart bruised his foot, but was otherwise fine following a frightening crash Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
“I was kind of worried, my legs, my entire legs from my hips down were just tingling,” Stewart said. “And I had pain in my lower back and that kind of scared me a little bit. I’ve not had my legs tingle like that before.
“I was kind of worried about, `What’s going on here?”‘
Stewart wrecked 108 laps into the race when the right front tire on his Toyota failed. It sent the car hard into the wall, and he immediately called for help.
“I’m hurt,” he radioed his team before slowly climbing from the car. He gingerly walked with the assistance of two emergency personnel into a waiting car that took him to the infield care
center.
Stewart bruised his right foot in a hard accident in the Nationwide Series race on Saturday, and said following the Sprint Cup wreck he hit his foot in the second wreck.
“I just hit a spot that was already tender and sore,” he said. “It’s the inside of my foot, just hit it off the pedal and bruised it a little bit. But today’s hit was probably 10 times harder.”
The tingling in his legs frightened the veteran, but he said the sensation had improved by the time he was cleared to leave the care center.

Glad he is ok!
I was impressed with his interview after the wreck. He was in pretty good spirits even though it was obvious he was still hurting. Maybe we’re seeing a bigger, better Tony. He still needs a haircut… :0)
Yeah i’m glad Tony’s ok too. I know he’ll make a great showing next week in ATL
I always like the scruffy TS. It gives the impression, that “hey, I just a good ole boy too!”
That was a hard hit , glad Smoke is ok.
Glad Stewart was ok.. seeing him slam against the wall that hard made me scared and nervous.
I’m with shawn. I wonder if he’s planned the date for when he gets waxxed by harvick…at least he knows how he’ll feel after

The scruff is good, as a lot of people now wear that look now (including myself) but Tony needs a hair cut bad.
Just think if that was the old car, for both his and Jeffs crash, that’d been bad.
I dropped my beer on the floor when I saw him hit the wall like that..scared me s**tless, truthfully. When I saw his window net wasn’t coming down right away I was freaking out. Thank GOD he’s okay. He’ll win it next week at ATL
GO TONY GO!
Well maybe if they allowed some other tire company come in maybe half the crashes wouldnt of happend. Its stupid that Good-Year cant make a tire that is safer, look at indy cars turning both ways they have tires that dont blow at speeds over 200mph and they dont run Good-Year. Let another tire company step in and built a better tire, that would make Good Year step up to the plate A little bit more. Most of the hard hits besides Gordon’s was due to tires. That wall needs to be fixed wear Gordon hit that could have been really bad if his car wasnt built like a rock thats forsure. Im glad they are both ok but the tires need to be built better, and that wall should be better protected with the safer barrier.
That was a hard hit… so glad that he’s okay, but it was obvious that it rattled his cage.
I love the hair… it doesn’t matter to me one bit if it’s long or if he’s bald…
he’s still #1 on my list.
Josh I am 99% sure that he either ran over a piece of debris sometime within the lap prior, or he got it cut down by another car.
Goodyear tires are pretty good, and Tire Wars never work out and are nothing but bad for the sport so I don’t want to see another company come in with Goodyear.
If anybody remembers the hoosier - goodyear battle that didnt do good at all.
i thought Tony was going to be worse than that! strong boy!! its his hair!!! gives him strength..
I’m kinda agreeing somewhat with Josh here. But we will never EVER see tire wars in Nascar anymore. COT pretty much is there to keep the cars as equal as they can be, you bring in different tire companies and you have advantages and disadvantages, simply won’t work in today’s Nascar. i miss Bodine’s Hoosiers!!!! lol and goodyears are pretty good??? im not going to comment more on that one…

An example closer to the present then that would be the Indy USGP tire fiasco the other year.

I think it was the hair! I am just glad he is ok. When I realized needed help to walk I was really worried. I still am because any tingling in your legs can’t be good.
Tony is my guy and I know he is tough!
QUIT saying he needs a haircut!!! He looks great scruffy!
There is a difference between Scruffy and Ron Jeremy/Donald Trump/Al Sharpton like hair …… l0l
Im Glad Tony Is Ok….. Even Thought Im Not A Fan Of His That Scared Me…..
not a tony fan and i did clap when he crashed but i am certainly glad he is ok!!!!

That is soo wrong. I don’t think it has gotten that bad!

lol

john lennon sexy?
no..
LUKE SKYWALKER/ANAKIN SKYWALKER SEXY, LOL
Hmm, all the hard hits he has had in midget and sprints and even in previous years in the fenders and he never had tingling in his back yet three races into the new COT cars 1st season this has happened. Sounds about like the first few years of the IRL with the change to the Gforce and Dallara. Bad designs that finally got taken care of after many years of revisions and drivers careers being ended.
I saw a little of the race. Man these cars like to move around alot, very unstable. Guess that is what Nascar wants. More wrecks to cause red flags and have a dash to the finish. About the only “excitement” NASCAR can script anymore.
I wonder with that new hair die that smoke has does he even need a helmet? Naw glad hes ok and in good spirts and as long as we are talking about what smokes hair cut looks like i will say he looks like a fat tom hanks in the Da Vinci Code. lol
I’m glad smoke is OK. Good thing nothing is broken but he will be sore.
His car was moving around a lot and crew was never able to get it right.
Im a tony fan but the Hair, it must go along with the extra 20+lbs. Scruffy is for a dog not a man…

Ok maybe not yet, but its well on its way, especially when he does media appearances without his hat on and he has his hair all slicked back… l0l
Funny how some of the post’s are disappearing when they aren’t “violating” anything. Hmmm wonder if that isn’t being done to create certain issues amongst people, when you see only certain post being deleted.
Sounds like someone is whining again.
As I think, Tony has a lot to think about with this. He really seemed to get knocked silly. He may even have a more serious injury we might hear about in the future. Now if anyone is going to complain about that being a hard hit with a safer barrier or not, he’s one. And, it would be justified. Unlike some “other” guy we heard about.
That was a hard hit with the safer barrier.. don’t need his word on that.
That’s what I’m saying. Tony had himself knocked silly. I’m sure that he is suffering some other issue if your legs tingle after that. I am talking about a serious injury he may not even suspect and I would hope that he would see a Doctor. This in field center visit just wasn’t cutting it for me.
Did you see Tony’s face when he finished talking on the interview outside the care center? As they were finished, the camera was still on him and he took a step, but even before he took the step on the sore foot, you can see the pain in his face. He grimaced and throughly looked distressed. We have all seen him get in super wrecks and all, but this really did him in. I wish him the best.
Our modified driver did that two years ago (and actually knocked down the wall) and he ended up with some muscle in his lower back pulled, and he had to go to a chiropractor for a few weeks, he had the same basic feeling of for a few minutes his legs being tingly and for a few days afterwards he was kind of loopy & sore, but two weeks later for the open comp race he was back in the car.
Smoke probably already made an appointment with the doctor, i’m sure. He’s had only one other crash that really was hard, and that was in a midget car..don’t remember the year, but he broke his pelvis, his arm, did something to his legs, broke something in his spine..I read his autobiography
know what his therapy was? Racing little go-karts at a local karting facility for a couple hours at a time. Can’t get him away from wheels! lol
Tony is one tough guy and he will be back in the car if at all possible even if it still hurts a lot.
On the other hand Jeff Jordon Im not so sure about. He wined so much about the wall he probably gave himself a migraine.
I really thought Tony was effed up. I kept hearing conflicting reports on the severity of the injury/injuries. I’m glad it wasn’t as bad as it appeared. Jeffy is lucky too because that was such an odd place where he hit (the wall). I had flashbacks of Mikey at Bristol (1990?). The best part about seeing a wreck is when the driver/drivers get out alive in one piece.
Mikey’s was in 1988, and Mike Harmon had a similar crash there in 2002.
I remember 2 years ago at Pocono when Jeff Crashed really hard into turn one (I think it was), that was bad, I as well as everyone else around me in the stands thought he was dead.

I thought the exact same thing when the interview was over. I have never seen a look like that on his face. He seemed like there was still something going on that he wasn’t talking about. “Distressed” is a good way to describe it. I am sure that Joe Gibbs will make sure Tony goes to the Doctor, he probably already has.
The story is about the mans wreck, why do so many people comment on what he looks like? maybe hes going for the dale earnhardt look of the late 70s early 80s lol I couldnt careless what he looks like.
He should go for the Rusty Wallace Afro look…. l0l
You know, I was at the race, and I saw the wreck, and he took a long time to get out, and i was thinking omg he’s broken something, but watching him walk to the explorer gave me a sigh of relief, and hearing this eased my mind. Smoke is one of my favorite racers.
